Well....I'm impressed.  Really like the "8mm Film"...the loco and cars look absolutely massive.  I really like the weeds too and that's the best treatment of Unitrack I've seen so far.

Had a photography professor who constantly emphasized that it's not necessarily the equipment which makes for good photos, it's the photographer.  Of course, the good photographer knows his equipment and works within its limitations.  Well done DKS!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your "street track".

Robert, I confess I'm quite chuffed that my silly little project has impressed you.

Moving right along... most of the streets are done except for detailing and striping--just a bit left to do in front of the factory.

NICE!

DKS, I've heard a rumor that you will be shipping this little gem of a layout to the NSE convention, to enter it in the contest.

Those tufts growing from the concrete look sooo good!  I tried to get a similar effect using just normal grass foam in the cracks of pavement but it didn't look nearly that good.

Those roads though!

Is the sidewalk all separate pieces with grass wedged between them?

Also did you scribe the texture on the roads of is that all paint?

I was going to do it that way but deiced it was too much work. I scribed the joints with a knife, then cut tufts into narrow slivers with a scissors and glued them into the joints.

Also did you scribe the texture on the roads of is that all paint?

Roads are black styrene sanded with coarse sandpaper to make the dark grey color. Cracks and such are done with a Sharpie.

I love it, an amazing number of scenes for such a small space.  A very clever design.

That blue sky though (photoshopped?) is not what I would expect of NJ during that era, or any era for that matter!

The sky is not shopped; it's just a chunk of poster mounted on foamcore. I prop it up in the background so there's something other than wall, door, or shelves visible behind the layout. I agree it is a bit intense, but contrary to popular (mis)perception, NJ does have skies like this on occasion--in fact, the last few days it looked pretty close to this.
