Well John, it looks like it's just you and me.  I'm going to tell the guy it's a no-go based on lack of response.  For the record, it's 1-Source Electronics that I've been talking with.  http://www.1sourcecomponents.com/   Their web iste had the speakers listed for $3.18 ean and price breaks but didn't list stock quantitiy so I put in a quote request a long time ago.  After 3-4 weeks someone finally responded and this is the result.  When I talk to him today I'll see if different price/quantity is available but he was pretty adamant that the choices were the 150 pc @ $5.90 or 50pc at $12.75.

The other option is that I'll talk to the CFO (wife) about diverting part of the tax refund to this project and then see if I can sell some of the remaining 110 speakers on ebay or piecemeal to other rail modelers.  Assuming you (John) still want 40 of them (for $240).

How about $1500 for 500?   :scared:  Then we would only have to find buyers for about 450 units each.  lol

If you decide to move forward, I'm still willing to put $300 toward the cause for 50 units.   I've got a tax refund coming too :)

The minimum order from Newark is 1000 units; honestly, if they'd do 500 at $2.82 each, I'd probably find a way to front the cash, buy them, and the resell at $3.50 each to recoup my investment.  I just can't do $3000 right now.

But you can count on me for $300 if you decide to go forward.

John

Interesting. Might be more useful to me than the Knowles Fox.
I just saw a video of someone having installed a sound decoder into Dapol's new 57xx and all the decoder sounds were quite good, but it seemed like the speaker could have been better, so since I have a 57xx on the way I'm looking at possibly installing sound in the future.

-Cody F.

I used this speaker in my VO-1000 and my RS-3 sound installs.  Both sound great (to me) and honestly I think I would have used it in my GP7 and RS11 installs had I known about it at the time.   The Knowles Fox fits and sounds great, but the Star Micronics would be an easier fit and I think gets about 90% of the sound quality of the Fox.  I think this speaker is the same as (or very similar to) the Zimo 8x12mm "sugar cube" - they look identical to me - and the Zimo is $9 or so from dealers (though it comes with a molded enclosure that I always throw away).

If you haven't heard my RS-3's, here's the YouTube link:

Honestly - if you're interested in doing sound installations in first-generation hood diesels (Atlas GP7/9, RS-11, RS-3, RS4/5, etc.), this is a great choice.

I caught this thread late. I tried to buy some from PLCCenter. They showed them as 3-4 week lead but then emailed back and said there was a 10 week minimum with a minimum buy quantity of 1000. This kind of suggests Star Micronics might be willing to make some if the quantity is large enough.

However, back to the original topic, if these are genuine SCP08B speakers I'll go in for 20 at that price.

Kind of new here but been around on Trainboard and MRR Forums for a while.

Hi Tony,

I have the order in.  It's been 6 days since my CC was charged so hopefully they should show up soon.  So far about 100 of the 150 are allocated. I'll be putting out a notice for the rest once they actually show up and I check them out to make sure they are good.

The speakers have arrived.

Just a rough size comparison.  The roll is about 5" in diameter. Hard to believe there are 150 speakers there, but I counted.  Twice.  Not very impressive looking for $900!

Here's a front and back close up:

When I get requests sorted out I will put a message in the Trading Post for the remaining speakers.
