You're right. I just thought they were moire lines.

The font is all over the place between one source and another; compare these:



I was using the one on the left as my target, since it's for the side of a building. Note in particular the odd proportions of the R and B, and the fact that the U is dead center.

Horizontal lines fixed; just refresh.

Think now I should make it a stand off sign and have the word "republic" span the brick columns on each side.

I think in-between the columns is best as the sign is only slightly larger the other way.

I've been debating between this logo and the Bethlehem logo for a colab steel mill project between me and a couple friends.
The Bethlehem logo is more recognizable, and the mill I'm envisioning draws heavily from Bethlehem, but that Republic logo has a more commanding look to it.
Of course, the planned name for the mill is Wharton Steel. Wharton being the NJ state forest where there once was a good deal of bog-iron industry in the revolutionary war era.

Cody, In my opinion, what matters is the location you are modeling. For me these logo's are very recognizable.







But if I was modeling the East coast, I'd think the Bethlehem logo would be better suited for a East coast layout, as Bethlehem Steel had two major mills in Sparrow Point MD and Bethlehem, PA. Where the above mills are more associated with the Eastern Ohio, Northern West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania areas. 

Chris333, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Erie HCD layout. What era are you planning on modeling?

For me Republic works. They had mills in Cleveland, Warren, Niles, and Youngstown. All along the Erie and all near me. Kinko's printed these out and they looks great. Thanks David for the millionth time! Once I get some weathering on the building I will mount the signs. I think the white background will work as I found another pic of a mill in Y-town with the white:

Rich, I try to model 1948 give or take. Erie dieselized early to try and show a modern image, but I like steam.
