Nice to know I'm not the only one thinking that B&O interchange track should take interchange. Tho it's true it would be very very hard to make it look plausible.

Did a little name change. This is a freelanced layout, but so much is inspired from the area I live that I decided to call it the Mahoning Division. Here is a map:


You can see the main splits up and comes back together. Freights going NYC-Chicago would use the upper freight cut off. All passenger trains would dip down the lower branch.

Wow.... I just happened to be reading the Nov 78 MR and there's an article about a guy doing the HO Mahoning Division, circa 1951. Spooky...
One thing, is there really a Shenango Viaduct?

Oh I'd have to look up that issue, but the Erie relocated their mainline so they could build a dam for the Shenango reservoir. I would call them bridges:

And just east of the reservoir is where the mail line split up.

Alright lets get this over with: The Interchange...

I cut a 12" radius template (old curve was 13.5"R) and tacked a piece of flex over it:



So I can rebuild that turnout and have an interchange track run parallel to the B&O. I could even add another set of FAKE turnouts on the B&O line to look more official. Maybe even cut a boxcar in half at the backdrop  :trollface:

Which one is it A or B?

Turnout off the Erie would work. The curved TO would be set to the siding and non operating. The B&O fake TO would stay. Curve is probably ~10"R.

I like "A," where each road can reach into the interchange track without a reverse move.  Since it would be unlikely that the Erie trains would runaround on the B&O main, there's no advantage to option "C," which would require B&O trains to enter Erie tracks to access this end of the interchange.

Sweet.  That's like adding another industry, except you can interchange any type of car that you want.
