What was that the HO folks used to say about N scale being too small for "modelling"?  I don't remember ever seeing a pin-connected truss that well done in any scale.

Wow.    This series gets sent to a couple actual railroad bridge inspectors I know.  They won't believe it either.

I'm not sure what else to say, except that the RMC is laying here near the computer as well, open to your cover story.

Yup, it's over, Mark won N scale. Holly cow...

David, that portal bridge looks fantastic, even if it's just 3 parts vs. Marks 2,456 parts for his bridge.

I hope Mark makes a book or DVD on all his bridges and hints at technics he uses that might be of help . Mark , how many so far , and how many more gems to go ?

Thx everyone for the positive reinforcement.

This is the last of the major bridges.  All told so far there have been 7 major ones and 9 minor ones.

Once this one is installed, to "celebrate" the completion of the major ones, I am going to post a YouTube video on the prototypes and models of the major bridges. Lots of running shots.

It is a big milestone for me as when I was planning the layout I wasn't sure how or even if I was going to tackle the bridges. It certianly will be nice to have well completed...and a bit sad as well.

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Been working on some loads this week.
First up pipe loads for my new BLMA pipe flats.
I know I have some BLMA pipe loads on order and Protoloads make some really nice pipe loads but
I enjoy trying to attempt to models these things.

How do you do the banding?

Quote
And last some BLMA pipe flats on clearance? I had to have a few more.
They need loads so after whittling for an hour I think I am on to something.
I think with some effort I can get this into a master for casting.
2 blades to 3 flat cars. Fun stuff

Paul

I'd buy some!   :D

Didn't get much done this week; did start hacking up a couple of Kato ACF 70 ton hoppers for conversion to open side SHPX Westvaco and Kimberly Clark units....fun hacking away at the Kato plastic sides...not.

Did manage to weather a CB&Q PS hopper.... now in service with the rest...

I managed to finish assembling the Farr Creek bridge this week (phew! 250 interlaced links made my head hurt). ...

This is incredible work, Mark. IMO it is on par with the famous miniature working Ferrari V-12. I seriously wonder if ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) might be interested in documenting what you've accomplished here. Sending them a picture similar to this particular angle with the obligatory coin to convey the scale would doubtless raise many knowledgeable eyebrows, at minimum.

Wow, simply stunning work Mark.  :o  :o

Well, I spent the week beating up this otherwise good C40-8W.   :D

Cheers,
Brian
I've never met a covered hopper I didn't like.... :)

    • Trying to model the BCR Fort St John BC (again)...while living in Australia (what could possibly go wrong?)

After a couple of months of minimal progress I was back at the layout this week.  I installed and painted the valance for the lighting canopy over the top deck.   I painted it the same colour as the room walls.   I really like the effect and this part of the layout almost seems to 'float' in the room now.

That's it.  I was planning to build a couple of major bridges for my N-Scale version of BC Rail's Chetwynd Sub but after seeing this, I think I'll just use some cardboard and paper cups to hold it up

Indeed. I'm embarrassed to post my meager progress on the Hoboken Manufacturers.
