Boy do those video's bring back memories. I remember as a kid, living in Cleveland in the late 60's, early 70's watching those in operation. They really are huge machines.

Those are amazing machines 8) I had seen the Walthers kit years ago but never put any thought into how the prototype actually worked.
Working on a early 90's ALCO powered short line.

Not directly, I remember driving by/thru when the family did trips to CedarPoint and middle bass island.

These are amazing machines. There are (at least) three fascinating things about them:
  • They are huge and move quite rapidly
  • There is a large amount of industrial noise involved
  • And, the most fascinating, there's a guy standing inside the business end of them
There's a pretty cool working model shown here (
Looks like it's made out of Meccano (or a very similar construction set).

We watched those videos last Saturday after the CRHS board meeting. It was a room of people quiet in awe.
