As with most "legalese", I'm sure these words were inspired by a specific incident, the nature of which should be pretty clear by the chosen verbiage. In the modern era, perhaps just the fear of someone thinking TRW was "deep pockets" and coming after :tommann: because of someone else's stupidity.

These rules have been in effect almost as long as the forum has been around. Recent events have made it necessary to remind people of them.

There has been a rash of scammers on the yahoo yard sale site along with a few groups on Facebook.  Sounds like a CYA for Tom so he isn't liable if someone frauds someone else.  With the current day and age, people can sue for anything, and being if fraud occurs here, it is somehow TRW's fault, being they provided the forum/venue for the fraud to occur, or some lawyer will try to say.

I should add that there was no issue whatsoever.  There was a misunderstanding that was resolved within a day or so.  It just reminded me that we used to have a message to the one that I sent around, and it would be a good idea to restate it.
