Thanks Ryan for the link.

They look good except it appears Kato left off molding the fan base. The fan goes right into the top of the shell with no flanged base. That is terrible. Can't use that shell. Back to trying to get some Athearn F59PHI shells.

Brian, check out this seller on ebay , he seems to get a lot of ATLAS and KATO shells and he is good to deal with.

Brian

I don't know if you saw this topic https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=29171.msg312038#msg312038.  I used this method on some Athearn HO SP specific details with mixed results.  Cannon Co is not interested in producing n scale so this may be the only way to fab some parts.

Greg

Greg,

I just placed an order for a quart can of this stuff today. Give it a try and see if I can shrink an HO scale Q exhaust to N-Scale. I look forward to playing around with this stuff.

I got lucky. Athearn had only three roof sections to the F59PHI in stock. Bought them all. That is half the battle.

Now if I can make this Hydrospan 400 work properly, I can shrink the Q-exhaust hatch section from an HO DB hatch and I will have all I need to build a Q-equipped SD40-2 snoot.

If you have access to a Perfactory I believe I have the late ERDB hatch designed.

The Q-exhaust hatches, these are also known as the silencers right?

I could use a few, esp if they are designed to fit right onto the Kato unit.

Yes, They are also know as silencers.

If my mold is successful, I may be able to sell a few. I did make the master for it last night. Also, if I can successfully cast a set of 48" Q-fans, I can sell it as a kit. I need to get a pressure pot though before I can cast any of this.

Look to be exhaust silencers for SD40-2s.

I was going to ask why no one had mentioned these. I've used them a couple times and I love how they look. I strongly recommend them.
