Curent status on the PRR R50B reefer kit from GHQ

Hello all,

I wanted to give you an update on the GHQ R50B reefer kit since you all seem very interested!
I just checked and...
 
Current status: About 60 days before release for sale (Planned for March 2014)
First run size: Approximately 50 units (but GHQ will do a second run if these sell out quickly)
Pre-order: Not required

Body shell castings (Done)
Decals: (Done)

White metal parts:
Floor castings (Done)
Underbody details (need to be production cast)
Trucks (production masters need to be prepped and production cast)

Instructions TBD.
Decal instructions for each period TBD.

You will need to supply the kingpins and use a BLMA "grabs and stirrups" etch to complete the model.

My wife went back into chemo treatment in August, so the project was delayed again. I may not be able to provide detailed instructions about paint schemes within this timeframe, but it sounds like it is more important to get the project out.

Stay tuned for an update in about a month with more details and final pricing.

Except that the R50b master model is done and there have been a couple of pilot models floating around for months.  An email should be sent to Michael Livingston or Gregg Scott to find out what the status is.

Photos of one of the pilot models is on the N-ScaleVarnish group page and were posted there about a year ago.

Ah!  Michael has posted right before me.

What is meant by messenger designation on the Hellgate cars?

The Messenger meant exactly that. There was an operator or messenger riding in the van which was easily identified with the vents on the roof to provide clean air for him
.
This is a pic of the Walthers HO Scale Car. Further identification is by the star on the side of the van under the REA logo.

More importantly, there was a desk, safe and bathroom in all "messenger" cars and all carried a star... even into the Amtrak era...

Should not be too hard with styrene shapes.  The HGM B60b instructions show the locations.

My cars arrived today.

I didn't realize they were kits! What the hell?  :trollface:




Actually, I'm really excited to get started turning them into some real pigs. Should be a lot of fun.
