TRW meltdown?
« on: December 29, 2013, 03:41:57 PM »
The forum was inaccessible for good part of yesterday and last night. IIRC, any TRW URL access displayed error 500 from the ISP (Gator-something).  I'm just curious as to what caused that.

Ah, I should have guessed. The space-time continuum seemed to be a bit disturbed yesterday.  :)

I can access railwire but when I tried sending a PM it went into melt down.  But when I left, came back, railwire worked per usual until I again accessed my messages, then melt down.  You need to kick the flux capacitor a few times.

I did get tired of running in circles with my hands up screaming that the sky was falling, glad it's over.

apparently, our hosting company has been purchased by some mega hosting outfit .. and ever since then, they have reliability problems ..

This EIG company has bought up so many hosting companies it's not even funny:

And now everything sucks:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/news/5246-editorial-hostgator-alternatives.html

And reviews on the Net that are positive for alternatives are either out dated or shortly might be. :RUEffinKiddingMe:

I've been spending time trying to determine what to do next for a new host and how to handle RW as it grows bigger.  I'm leaning towards a solution with Amazon Web Services that will also handle load balancing and growth as RW expands.  This decision takes time and money.  In the meantime, rest assured that I am very good with the database and forum software and make very frequent back ups.  Even if HostGator completely self destructs, I can have the site running on another host in a day. :tommann:  Getting the header images back up might take another day

Darn!  Why did you make Ed K. a TRW moderator?!  He edited your thread and removed his phone number.  :)
Thanks for the explanation as to what's going on. Usually when a large fish swallows bunch of smaller minnows, things get worse.  The big fish gets indigestion, and we all have to suffer.

Some of us do have Ed's phone number but I'm not telling and I'm not gonna panick when TRW goes down.  I know it'll be back up as soon as the fine people who run it get time.

Tell me something I didn't know.  :P  TRW *IS* my life!  No Facebook or Tweets for me.  I could accomplish so much more modeling if I didn't spend countles hours on TRW!  It is an addiction!  ;)

Hey did the URL change somehow?  I no longer see the "post since your last visit" button or the "Hi Chris" with my avatar.  Just wondering.
