The Railwire Interchange Fleet

After Puddington's thread on "Littl' Puddy", it got me thinking about the possibility of doing a "Railwire Interchange Fleet of One" that meaning that there is only one car in said "Interchange Fleet".

The idea is to create a Railwire car with the objective of it visiting every :ashat: who chooses to host the car, whether they have a layout or not.
They just have to have a desire to be included and have some way to take at least one photograph of the car while it is in their possession.

This thread would serve as a constant record for the journey of the car.
Photos and accompanying creative stories would be posted here by each participating  :ashat:.

It could be painted a single color with plain white reporting marks of TRWX and its number would be 0.
The idea is that each  :ashat: could add some form of marking/decal/weathering or even endeavor to make it more prototypical in some way.

Upon completion of its journey, it could be raffled off to any of the :ashat:s who would have participated.
But such a raffle should be done at a CRHS Rail-B-Q so that there can be witnesses as to the fairness of said raffle.

To get the ball rolling on this idea (if there is any interested parties besides me)...

I have an MT 50' boxcar (the only one that I own) and all it needs is to be stripped of its paint, repainted, and trucks put on.

I would be brush-painting it since I do not own an airbrush.
If I were to letter it, I would probably cut up some random decals I have and make a Frankenstein's Decal.
...Or I'd see if anyone I know has any spare dry-transfers.

Heck, the first phase of the journey could be it being "interchanged" to the first recipient road to go into their shops to be painted and lettered.

These are all just some starter ideas to get peoples mind thinking.

Cody,
What the heck, I'll bite. Why don't you send it down here as is (we have a local fondness for the WM) and I'll add the trucks, couplers and a patch out for the paint. We'll see if there are any takers after that.

I`d say count me in but the high doubt of a layout in the for seeable future makes me say no (dang air force :()

I'm in. The car should be able to hit 4-5 Railwire members here in Vancouver in one fell swoop

It's a great idea, until someone on the list drops the ball. I was the one tasked to retrieve the Atlas and Trainboard cars, and it wasn't easy.

Sure, I'll play.  I hosted the Atlas car and five or six folks later it disappeared...

Traveling cars are fun!

http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?119858-TBX-3401-TrainBoard-Lease-Car!!

I recommend fabricating a permanent shipping box to make things easiest for all participants (just re-tape and slap on postage) and make sure everyone keeps the return address to that of the coordinator.
We limited our tour to reputable users to prevent any magical disappearing acts.  Also make sure each host contacts the next host and coordinator before shipping for confirmation they're still in.

I was actually thinking about having a small wooden crate made up to accommodate the car in a jewel case, and a good layer of foam rubber.

And since there are some takers, I shall begin stripping the car to roll out.

It's first "host" road will be the Ashland & Sycamore Hill.

That is the name of the layout of the man who ran Camden & Amboy Models, Konrad Richter.
He is sorta like a mentor to me and I am on the list of engineers on duty for the November open house.

It'll be making its way over the ASH on November 2nd, the first day of the open house, the location of which is available online.

I could also use some help in determining an orderly list for the sequence of interchange, if anyone doesn't mind.

Send it to me for the DMV portion and I'll get it to Dave, Seuss, John, and see about BANTRAK. Maybe basementcalling if Pete wants in.

Painting over a Wild Mary car is sacrilege. I'd say paint over the reporting marks with TRWY give it a number and send it on its way.

BTW I'm in.

Posted on Trainboard February 2, 2011:

" So what happen to the car? The last update about it was October 7. "

End of thread.

Don't mean to be a killjoy, but it took me months to track down the original Atlas forum and Trainboard forum cars (prior to the 2010 car). I paid for them to be returned out of my own pocket, and sent them on. I lost some friends on Atlas and Trainboard because of the search, and my tactics.
