Weekend Update 9/22/13

yippee...I get to be first.

I spent the week decompressing from last weekend's intense ops event. Decompressing entailed finishing a couple of octagonal tanks, a bit of ballasting, and running a wrecker train I weathered a few months ago across the layout for the first time.  Oh, and catching up on work and getting to know my family again!

Did some changes on a Atlas Trainman 50' box (with a new 50' box along side for comparison)...



The weathering job... sorta ho-hum.

I do like the difference it makes by replacing the thick plastic roofwalk with an etched replacement, and filing down the bolsters a little.

Work continues on my attempt to scratchbuild a passenger car.  I have finished the long process of squaring out the windows on the sides for cook diner BCOL 6508, and the outer ends now have bottom closing plates:




These parts are now virtually ready for assembly with the roof.  My next task is to build the rooftop longitudinal water tank, whose bottom and top surfaces must match the curvature of the roof.  I think I have worked out how to do it, but this will be another learning experience in the art of scratchbuilding for me.

The eventual goal is to have a rolling consist for the Prince George Auxiliary, similar in function to the train pictured in Mark's post.

Almost all of the buildings now have permanently-installed roofs on the Jersey City Industrial. The only structures with any significant work left are the Rearden main building addition re-do (nearly dead center), and the General Crucible Company building flat (far right).



Also, with the completion of the water tower, the skyline is pretty well established; all that remains are some smaller rooftop water tanks, more chimneys and additional vents.

David, Wow, that's coming together nicely.    I like the "Bearden Block".   Whether salute or pun, works for me.

A couple questions, sure not criticisms:

Is the streetcar track planned to be operational or cosmetic?

Does the lower RH track (in the overhead shot) go inside that building or stub at the wall?

Part of the magic on this one will be getting the backdrops right, but the photography angles that you've already got defined, and the track plan in general, a classic in the making.  To say nothing of a good place to showcase all your detail goodies.

Those utility poles make a huge difference Daryl...as does the different ballast treatments. Beautiful work.
