What's with the funky sky coloration?

I think I have a lighting color temp discrepancy over there. I kinda liked the "vintage" feel it gave it, but for publication I'd probably want to just get that all to pure white.

Next layout though? Clapped out Alcos and worn GPS.
You need a doodlebug so that you can model this scene:

1. Ed, when is the layout coming down? Do you have a rough date?

2. Any mention of the Olson twins makes me think of this picture: :lol:

OMG YES.

No, I said "Ed's Law."

I watched this last night. There is some incredible weathering on the models.

Very nice weathering on everything. If it weren't for the backdrop being just plain blue you might be hard pressed to know it is a model at first glance.

Well

It could be Cinder blocks

Or knotty pine

True that, but given how good the rest of the scenic work looks, I was expecting the road at the crossing to head onto the background.

I like how the freight cars slightly bump up and down and sway -- like real cars on well-used track.

I did the math last night.
The yard will fit in the new basement in either orientation, so I have plenty of options.
I have been thinking about a slightly different theme though... I love the idea of a "what if" for the New Portage Secondary (aka, the Mule Shoe Curve line). I really want to try out some helper ops and that'd be a good reason.
Windsor St could become Hollidaysburg.

This is, of course, just an idea.

Likewise, I could also just dial up the grades on the NCR a bit. It wouldn't be that unbelievable: the WM ran helpers almost all the way to Baltimore over similar country.

Why don't you want to model the NCR anymore?
