I don't have a large flat file, but the three flattest files I have are Nicholson files.
My big issue is that I don't have any reference point on the walkways like I do on the smokebox.
I'm trying to keep gaps to a minimum, and none on the walkways since I'd rather not have to replace them.

I now recall that is what you actually said to me. Time has eroded my 30 year old brain. Maybe I should send my L1 to you! haha!  :D ;)

Not to worry, man!  If you ever tried to actually solder to a brass screw once it has been screwed into a hole in the frame,
you'll find out in short order that it's darn near impossible.  You will never be able to get the screw hot enough to flow and stick solder.

Still trying not to screw up on the smokebox end.
My Chinese caliper isn't any help because it'll jump around if there's even the slightest draft. It also isn't the least bit accurate.

And for those wondering, the chosen number for the eventual product is 713.
#713 was stationed in Atlantic City, NJ, so naturally it made the most sense since it's a local unit.
