I have a B&M Atlas S-2, and even couple of the old Arnold units I was going to paint for B&M ,so I think I can live without a B&M S-4.

If you're referring to the small door at the bottom of the cab door, I don't see much of a problem with that...

No not really a problem (just as I suppose the extra tall door window isn't a 'problem' - or all the other issues... ), it's just indicative of the effort Bachmann puts into their products which has plagued every model they've done.

We all see things differently, I just can't understand how any of this qualifies as an 'outstanding' model.

Yes there is, I bought a set of them, don't remember who from, sorry 
They are a teeny bit "rounder" than the ATSF stacks IMHO, (see below) but a good start. Bruce, PM me with your address again and I'll send you a couple. I'm pleased with my S-4's; they look good, run great, and the boxing glove is easy to replace. So it gets down to roundish or squarish windows...really? Thats the big problem? Just how hard is to fix that, if one cares?

OK, I've been spending some time looking at pics of S4's and can't find why it is you say the model has an extra tall door window. Could you please clarify?

Huh?  I mentioned the windows thing once in this thread and the second post simply had a prototype photos to prove my point.  That's excessive?  Really?

But as you can see there, it's really all the windows on the rear of the cab that are too tall.  And honestly it's not the fact that they are too tall that's irritating, it's that you can look at any prototype photo and see the the rear windows shouldn't extend below the side windows but in fact, stop well above.

Nope - the air hose was on the left side for these early switchers.

Since these models have now been rendered prototypically unacceptable and no self respecting a$$hat could possibly keep this abomination on their layout, and since I need the mechanism for another project, I'm willing to pay $50 to remove the sin and allow you the opportunity to once again be counted as one of the "elite" modelers here on The Railwire. Just mp me if you would like to sell.

...and I second this feeling. Please send all SP versions to me and I'll make sure that they are 'taken care of'. I plan on melting them all down...by slowly running them on our NTrak layout.
