Update-

The family found a relative that is going to handle the inventory and sale.  I don't know when or if it will become available.  Thanks everyone with their help- I appreciate it.

That'll work out best for you in the end.

When things start "going south", and someone starts acting up over how it's being handled. you'll still be the "good guy".

These situations are never easy, and even the nicest guy, who's done nothing but good, get accused of something wrong.

Family and money, it's best to just stand back.

Bruce,
Thanks for the update.  This situation is a good reminder to keep an up to date and easily findable inventory, and to develop a written disposal plan.  My mom has one for her quilt fabrics (!) so when the time comes my brother and I can just make a few phone calls.
