NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Found a new definition of frustration last night as I attempted ( please; key on the word "attempted") to airbrush a model last night..... the high temp and humidity basically turned the paint (waterbased) into "goo" in the airbrush and to say the entire expereince was not sucessful would not be an understatement.... Did I mention that my hands are now a lovely shade of Jenks Blue from trying to clean the mess up...?  :facepalm:

Anyone had a similar expereince....?  :o

Try true Color Paint Jenks Blue and thin 60% to 70% Acetone. Goes on smooth. But, keep an eye on the mixture. The Acetone tends to evaporate out quickly. Also, the Jenks Blue is dead on for MOPAC. I have that on good authority.

This is the principle reason why I'm finishing the sealing up of our basement this summer - so I can run a dehumidifier while I paint.

LOL!!! Oh- yeah... down here in sunny So. Cal. it gets a bit "warm" this time of year. Fortunately I live fairly close to the ocean. So- it doesn't get quite as "warm" as the desert. But- it is a "dry" heat. I have found that if I try to paint in temps over- say 80 degrees F- the paint dries before reaching the model. Creating the little paint dots all over it. So, I either have to get up really early (on Sat. or Sun.) to get any kind of painting done-or- I'll have to wait 'til the fall. Like we even have that season. It usually goes from summer to what we kinda call winter.  Bottom line - painting this time of year is a real challange.
Oh- my train room is above my garage- so it gets really "warm" up there. I have got to get me one of those portable A/C units.

I sprayed some floquil last night with no issue, but I was in an air conditioned room.

"Dots"....oh yes; the model in question is a cascade of Jenks Blue dots, dashes and splotches.... it is bound for the striping tank....grrrr.....

Paint dried in the $##!@ airbrush, never mind in the air on the way to the model....LOL

I used those hot days to paint street surfaces or station platforms. The rough surface looks really great.

When I airbrushed down in hot, humid New Orleans (temp in 90s), I never had any trouble spraying Floquil. I don't think I had any trouble spraying Accuflex Jenks blue either, but that was the ONLY water based paint I dared to use in my airbrushes. For some reason, Polly S colors clogged my brushes.

No Puddy, I have not even considered airbrushing anything in this tropical weather we have been having in New England.

Why not? Because I know it would be a disaster!  I've tried in the past and I failed miserably.  When the paint/air mixture leaves the airbrush nozzle, it cools rapidly.  With the air saturated with moisture and the dew point in the 70s, water from the air condenses into the spray stream, resulting in the mess you've seen.

To make it even worse, if using paints with organic solvents, to add to the above problem, after the paint settles on the model, the rapid evaporation of the solvent also cools down the model surface enough again for the moisture from the surrounding air to start condensing on the surface (and sometimes even under) the wet paint.  It is a major disaster in the making.

No airbrushing of either water-based or organic solvent-based paints in this weather for me.

Maybe I should offer a model railroad summer camp up here in Anchorage. Currently 67 degrees and sunny. Bring your models, your sleeping bag, and some cookies from home. I will supply a work space, salmon on the grill, beer in the fridge and 18 hours of daylight! For a limited time only...fall will be here in about a month.  :facepalm:
