This is a spectacular N scale model built with a choice of open or closed hatches, or none at all. It is from an actual Swedish design, with some modifications to make it feasible for N scale. This class of feeder ship debuted in the early 1990s, and new ones are still being built. This ship has a capacity of about 650 TEUs, or 325 40' containers. At just over 28" long, it will fit in small harbors or on N Trak modules. I've painted this one in Maersk colors, bit I've seen this class of ships all over the world, either in person or through Google Earth, from bothe large and small shipping companies. I'll be developing some options, such as different rescue boats and crew amenities.

All six holds can be modeled open or closed; but the forward hold has a center keel to stabilize the bow.  It has custom photo-etched railings and stairways, and many custom details such as winches, masts, ventilators, davits and lifeboat.

Here's a high stern view:

Here's the bow (both from Helicon Focus SW):

This shows the open holds, the self-unloading crane, and the modern superstructure:

The ship has very clean lines:

Because it is an "empty" hull, the model is built up from styrene, but the hull goes together as easily as a hull can, and requires minimal fitting and trimming.

A built-up model, custom painted and decaled is $850.00 US, plus shipping and insurance.
A complete kit containing all details (but not commodities like paint and glue) is $325 US, plus shipping.

I will be showing this ship at the N Scale Convention in Milwaukee in late June. More information from peterknolan@gmail.com. My web site is in production.

Sweet!  How about an older salmon tender?

I notice you managed to salvage enough of those ventilators to complete a really splendid model!!

Kind of makes me wish I had a place to put something like that.

Do you do Mississippi River grain barges by any chance?

Ohio River coal barges would be a natural companion for the grain barges, and many of the coal docks serve both river and rail.

Pete .. you are missing the sand bags and 50 caliber on the flying bridge :) .. also, wouldn't the lifeboat be the modern enclosed type .. such as this ...

they are also frequently on a slide mechanism for quick launch .. or davit

John,

You're absolutely correct. I just haven't finished my modern rescue boat yet. I'm also awaiting my next batch of mold making materials.

I have three more ships to announce in the next few days.

See you in Milwaukee.  I'll be there Friday afternoon and Saturday.  Will you have a booth?
Best regards,

Roger
