Showcase MoW Crane: A Quick Review: Lots of Photos

Right truck other scale.  Interesting little side note,it seems that Lou,Daniel, and myself have all made mention in Joe Warren's blog on Showcase Miniatures.Nice to know I am in such good company.

LOL, yeah... I was one of the guys over at the NSVA badgering Showcase to get back in production. Not only do we have a new outlet for vehicles, but pewter detail parts too. Showcase could become Sunrise and GHQ all rolled into one company.

Walter is sending me a few Kodiak cabs to kitbash the MoW crane into something more Conrail. I plan on using to Chevy Kodiak cabs on the newer cranes and a CinC Chevy C65 on one of their older crane models. I hate to modify my only sample of the original MoW truck, but these kits were meant to be built, not sit in a collection!

Mine sat in Miami for six days after moldering in Alabama for a while, now it seems to have moved to Canada now.  I wish I couldn't see the progress- no wonder the USPS is a money pit.

It's a money pit because of the way our Congress set their pension plan up - and because lobbyists force them to carry bulk mail for almost nothing. If they were allowed to just carry mail and packages and charge the going rate they would actually be profitable (not that they should be profitable, but the point is that the high rates subsidize bulk mail - and the borrowing against their pension plan.

As far as service - what you're seeing is horrible and there is no excuse for it.  I've never seen this happen - I generally specify priority mail over UPS because it's always faster and cheaper.

I only know what I read about USPS from outside of the US, and that is that it is a consistent money loser to the tune of billions a year.  Canada Post has similar pension, union and other gov't oversights and restrictions, but has adapted by decreasing service, home deliveries, closing post offices, and now runs a small profit, mostly due to bulk junk mail they deliver.

Yeah, USPS sucks for taxpayers and its not even their lack of trying.
Reduce mail delivery? Nope, not allowed.
Eliminate job as volume decreases? Nope, not allowed.
Change the pension system to something that would benefit both workers and the company? Sorry, illegal.
Sell off unneeded assets land and sorting facilities? Congress stopped that too.

Sigh... ok I had a rant and it started to get political so I will shut up before the thread flames up.

Anyway, back on topic.

Saw a truck like this on the CN line yesterday.  They have vertical corner marker poles in the corners which should be an easy detail to do.  Looking forward to this, my first vehicle kit, ever.

Got mine painted.  It looks really good.  And really want to weather it, but I'd much prefer getting the decals on there first.  Need to figure out who I have to bribe to get them made...

And Scottl had to go and steal one of my little detail additions.

This bad-mouthing also makes me mad.  I have much more problems with UPS damaging my packages.  USPS is convenient (I can even print foreign postage labels online). Also, Priority Mail is not only cheaper than even UPS ground (for the type of shipments I do), it also gets anywhere in the continental US in 2 days (UPS ground can take up to a week).  They now even have pretty decent tracking system, using the delivery confirmation number.  I have nothing but praise for USPS.

USPS is my go-to shipper as well, for all of the above reasons. UPS, OTOH, will never again get one single solitary red cent from me, not after fatally damaging my James River Branch, and removing all insurance coverage from the shipment with no authorization or even notification.
