Union Pacific 49er Build

Union Pacific's Omaha Shops shrouded two locomotives in 1937. One of these was a Streamlined 4-8-2 used to pull the 49er from Cheyenne to Ogden-- Exactly my territory!!
Here starts my build

Here is the master.... Still needs a LOT of body work.

I've had a hand-me-down 49'er project in a drawer in my workshop for ten or more years for a good friend of mine.  I'll be wanting one of these for sure.  :)

Hey, for the mech, PCM makes this great 4-8-2 with sound and everything... Oh wait... I just made myself sad...

Wow!  :ashat:
Jason, what material do you use for the master?  Was this loco ever offered as an N scale brass model?

Thanks Pete,
No model in N scale has ever been made of this engine.

Jason will be the first N scale modeler with a hard cover coffee table book of his engines.

So... how did you do it? What did you use to create the master?

This engine's body casting had been in the works for a year now.  So I've kinda made it look machine gun stlye with the other casting Ive come up with    As for how this casting was made...... Hydospan 400.

Jason had a typo.  It's Hyrdospan 400.  Here's the mfg web page.  Scroll down and you'll see some familiar pictures.

Pretty cool.

Ah, so shrunk HO masters. How did you get around the warping issue?

Hydrospan does not provide you with a final product, only a good start.  Warping and other flaws can be taken out when the boiler is then converted to urethane.  This is still a lot of handforming, filling , Sanding and adding details well before the final mold is made.
