Been reading about this.  Apparently no one hurt.  Train his a truck and a propane car explosed.  Lot of building damaged and windows blown out.

derailment was in Rosedale
i work in whitemarsh
felt the explosion
sounded like a big A/C unit dropped on the roof

just drove by the accident 895-S on way to airport...   fireman about a car length away from a burning hopper...    letting it burn out...

stay away from Morovia Rd.

I bet Martin will have a bitch of a commute home tonight.

Photos show a trash truck involved.  Doesn't look like the locomotives were hit.  Foam units going to scene to combat fire.  Thinking that there might be plastic pellets burning in covered hoppers.  Train was CSX Q-409 which I photogrphed a couple days ago.

p.s. they pulled the power and the front of the train down to Cheseco and Rt 40....

that was about an hour ago

Supposedly it was hauling HAZAROUS materials ;). And some people drove towards the fire, filming it their phone with their child in the backseat... :facepalm:. The shockwave was felt as far as Pasadena, and someones curtains blew-in...:RUEffinKiddingMe:

I could see the smoke cloud from my office. It's down low on the horizon.

From what I've heard on the news tonight...
CSX train from Selkirk NY to Waycross GA; 2 locomotives & 45 cars.
Train struck a trash truck at an unsignalled crossing that apparently leads back into an industrial site, 15 of the 45 cars derailed.  Cars 8 & 9 were the ones burning, one carried some type of chemical (something acid) that was apparently used in processing plastics.  That was the car sending out the thick black smoke; apparently that chemical is also used a filler in smoke grenades.  The burning car was a big 4 bay covered hopper and all the gates on the bottom were open with fire shooting out, looked like the inside of a oven.  The burning car was laying on top of a tank car, which was burnt to a crisp.

Update: Dozens injured, several seriously, as lawyers stampede to accident scene to sign up victims for class action suit.

The Baltimore Sun reports the trash truck driver is in serious condition. It does not indicate there were any other injuries. Several other news sources reflect the same information.
