I haven't done much modeling in weeks, but today I started work again on the FGE 5145/5237 box. Most of the model is done. I still have some rivets to add. I wish my eyes were sharper and my hand steadier. I'm not real happy with the end posts...

Dan, it looks good and the end posts look fine.  You've just been staring at it too long.  Nice job assembling the puzzle.  8)

Daniel:  The pedestal goes in with the clay in it, and comes out with the clay still in it?  If so, why not use a solid floor, to make a sealed box, and do away with the clay entirely?  It seems that it would be cheaper, and since the clay never touches the master, the process should work the same.  If you need weight in the pedestal, put some nuts and bolts in it...

The problem isn't the weight, its the 65 PSI I use when pressure casting. Anything that isn't filled with material will colapse. After the outside rubber is cast, I no longer need the pedistal and can remove the clay and use it for something else.

The interior of hollow objects do not need to be filled. As long as the walls aren't paper thin, the interior can be empty. All you need to do is provide a vent that's not exposed to the rubber, so that the air pressure is equalized.

Brian,  no need to lurk, your modeling is pretty amazing!  Scratchbuilt no less!

BTW, maybe the name of this forum should be changed to "The life of Brians (Bryans)...and Daves".  :D But there is only one Peteski!  ;)

Yes, I'd say you do indeed come close! Very nicely done.

BTW, I'm one of the Daves, better known as DKS.
