Tomix heavy duty depressed center flat

I'm weeding out ancient N scale stuff and unburied this gem - a Tomix heavy duty depressed center flat.  I know it's based on a Japanese prototype.  But it would be very easy to swap in American prototype 100-ton trucks and Americanize the payload.  My question is, would anyone know if this is close to any of the American prototype cars?  Maybe one of the Westinghouse cars?

I have no idea, but given the variety of such flats, most people probably wouldn't notice the difference.  Give it a set of freelanced initials and it would be fine.

It does have a Schnabel look to it .

So if you picked a unknown transformer company and made a private car out of it the details are what you make it to be , especially if you don't label it as a Schnabel . The best disguise is to loose that flatbed and Schnableize it . Maybe add lightning holes in the HD cantilever arms , which would make it more like a WECX-200 .

I would love to have a WECX 200 prototype model as they came out in 1957 .

With specialized cars like those, I find that as long as the trucks are American prototype they look fine. That being said, I haven't been able to find myself one of these cars, though Micro Ace does have a much larger, and more Schnabel-like, heavy-duty transformer-handling car, but the price tag is up around $200.

Those were made by Tomix and imported by Con-Cor. They are very popular on eBay and
go for about $30. They come up for sale quite a bit and get lots of bids.

Another cool depressed center flat car is from Flishman and is very rare. I have only seen a few
and regret chopping up one for a failed kit-bash.
