KCS White Locos?

When did Kansas City Southern start painting their locos white? Anyone know?


Hmm... I'd prefer a light
blue...

Somewhere around 1968 To 1970 I think. All my reference stuff is in Maryland so I can't be 100% sure.

There are photos on line showing the read and white versions together in 1973; I'd have to dig around further to pin an exact date.

KCS went to the first white scheme (small cab side numbers) with it's first order if SD40s... Oct-1966





Their SD40-2s were delivered in the same scheme




The second white scheme has large cab side numbers, it appeared in the early 80s.

Oh they were common LONG before '77.  I'm not sure of the exact year either, but by '70 they weren't exactly rare.

Here's a YouTube video from 1971 that shows a a White unit.

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Mid 1989 for the first... rebuilt GP38-2s (former B&M and MILW) arrived in gray... the first order of SD60s arrived in gray Nov-Dec 89 as well.
