Atlas has announced the third release of PS-1 boxcars due toward the end of this year, featuring the eight-foot doors in a number of variations.  C&O, D&H, CNJ, NYC Pacemaker, RI, SAL, UP.

Glad they decided to do the 8' door versions before tackling the 6' door versions. I'm hoping to see some B&M 'Blue/Black Scheme' in the next offering.  :P

Not to mention some good ol' PRR X48s. Although I'll have to rig some version of the cushioned underframe though  :?
Cheers,
Scott

Nice!

That will just about allow me to replace all my older PS1's.

I wonder if there was some planning that went into that, or was it just blind  8) luck ?

These will be perfect on my late-'60s pike. Some healthy weathering, slap on an ACI decal, and there you have it. Yummy!

OK, so you got my attention :ashat:
You, of all people, have some inside info on why this happened, wanna share?
I mean, you have a wonderful model with the added advantage of having 100s of 'as delivered' as well as 'repaints' and 'leased back' schemes well into the 80s. You have a lifetime of releases to go. Kudos  :D

Always interested in the whys of manufacturer decisions......

When we decided to do the car, the most popular model out there has a 6 foot door, so we decided to do the 7 foot and 8 foot doors first.  Since our original 40' box car has an 8 foot door, we went with the 7 foot version first, then moved to the 8, and will eventually get around to doing the 6.

I would have stuck with a much simpler "Why Not?" response...

NYC Pacemaker car with the red and gray painted right across the door?  Instead of the door being entirely red
like it's supposed to be?   That jumped out at me as a much more obvious issue than the width of the door itself.

I'd expect Atlas to get the door right, the ladders may be a bigger problem.

Big oops on the door color. What's wrong with the width?

The eight-foot door width is correct for the NYC 175000-175024 series.  Making the door all-red is easily done.

Painting the ladders black shouldn't be a problem, given that they are separate parts and not molded as part of the body.

I think he was just saying that with the door the wrong color, the fact that it's 8' vs 6' doesn't stand out, not that it's the wrong width.

Yes the ladders can be painted, but the stirrup is part of the ladder and is a different color.

edit:  Don't forget to paint red below the door as well.
