GE wasn't about to be beat by EMD back then.   Here's their new U25b and in color.

Interesting progression in the design of that locomotive. From this

to this

and finally this.

Like this?:

This is displayed at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento. It's sooooo 1950's, and I dearly covet one for my own train room. Doesn't even have to be an original. :)

I don't have that one, Mike, but one or two that are similar, and some color magazine ads. I'll try to post a few pics tomorrow night.

If you're interested and not opposed to using eBay, just do a search for "Streamliners." You can almost always find full-page, full-color ads from the '50s or thereabouts for $5 to $10, and booklets for $10 or more. Hell, you can usually find Streamliner china and things like headrest covers, as well. Postcards of trains like the COLA are plentiful. I picked up a Streamliner plate and a Challenger bowl recently. Thought it would be fun to serve up snacks on 'em next time I have any operators over.

Oooooooh... the XP24-1... built under the guise of an export loco

Seemed like the Western and Southern roads did the most to advertise their passenger service.  Here's the one Eastern road I could find.

This is a great thread. I have some ads from the New England area, but no scanner as of yet. I'd love to get copies of some of these ads and would be happy to share mine. PDF files would be best. I'll get mine scanned as soon as I can.
