Laying stripes...

So, I have not been successful in putting down decal stripes over long distances; for example a passenger car. One technique I've been told is to cut the stripes into short segments, and do it bit by bit. That method, to me is quite tedious and is very frustrating, when segments refuse to line up. Does anyone else out in Railwireland have any suggestions on how to place decal stripes, in longer straight segments? Thanks for the sage advice!

The problem starts with the instruction "cut as close as possible". Long stripes should be cut just die opposite. Try to get as much clear decal sheet next to the stripe as possible since it helps to keep it straight. If you spray a nice glossy finish on the model before decaling, and use a lot of MicroSol even on flat surfaces, the transparent decal parts will disapear.
