Pledged my $99, so wait till October for delivery.
Plenty of time to think of uses.

I'm now pledged for one as well--thanks for the link!

I just wish there was some way to fit it into the pen holder on my Silhouette cutter/plotter... :)

Sure, but it will take some time, artistic talent and knowledge of tree structure.  Otherwise, your tree trunks will look like something out of Salvatore Dali painting.

It is very difficult to imagine a practical use for this device with respect to model railroading.

One idea of mine is to use it for making the support framing for hillsides, rock-faces etc.,

I remember back in the early 80's when I was working on the very first laser application for Architectural Models and was questioned about the viability of this process being used to create 3d models.  That was history and all it took was someone or someones to see something we may not see in this pen and revolutionize the hobby.  I'm sure once we get these in hand, who knows what will come of it....and remember this is the first article...in time more sophisticated and lower priced versions will be available.  When I was building desk top units in those early days we were charging  $150,000 for a 12x18 30 watt CO2 Laser.  Jump ahead 30 years and I have a better unit, sitting next to my work bench at home for a fraction of the cost.  It's amazing how much money it's saving me in X acto Blades   :D

Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor!

What a clever idea! It may need a steadier hand than mine to build an Eiffel Tower, but why not try?

Thanks for the link.
I send my 99.00.
I have so many ideas already, like adding small parts to Preiser figures and cars. How many hours did i cut small Evergreen pieces just to add a little chain or something. Can't wait.

How well does ABS stick to other plastics? Could it be used as a gap filler?

ABS is a type of styrene. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylonitrile_butadiene_styrene Kato loco shells are molded out of ABS (and many other model manufacturers probably use ABS for their models).  I would say that it is comparable to polystyrene (colloquially called styrene).
