Although that Model Power kit does indeed look like a Colonial house with a steeple tacked on, some churches in New England were exactly that--a house with a steeple tacked on. And in some cases, it was also a barn with a steeple tacked on.

David,

That is interesting. I thought they may get too cold. Then again wood is a natural insulator. That is a lovely looking church. I have looked at the churches close to the line that I can get street view of and it is a modern brick structure. So I may just use it somewhere else in the layout.

DKS, since I live in New England, it appears that I haven't been very observant when it comes to churches.   Thanks for the photo.

Bryan, your iPhone photo of the Blair Line church looks so much better then the photo on their website!  Very nice shingles too, and it looks like you added a bell.

;) To the Purists: I have not researched the accuracy of having a spike tipped wrought iron fence around a cemetery in central Illinois in the 1940s.
1. I am certain people were dying and being buried in cemeteries.
2. I have seen some with fences around cemeteries.
3. I have the church and like it especially the stained glass windows.
4. Eight years ago when I purchased the ornament for use on the layout, I had no idea where the project would go.
5. I really like Loren Perry's  spike tipped wrought iron fence.  8)
I may purchase and install several hundred more scale feet to keep the nit pickers out of certain areas.
Glad you have vicariously found this project so entertaining.
