... I'm making a 7 panel superior door for the 10' 6" car from a MTL door ...

At this point, you wouldn't prefer to wait for the Atlas versions?  The six-foot Superior doors will be coming when they introduce that variation of the car, and they will be available as detail parts.

Oops, yeah I forgot about those.

I have a need for one set right now and last I heard, Atlas hadn't decided if they are going to do the 8' or 6' door versions next. The conversion for the MTL door is really only a little filing and some added styrene so I'll do that for my one car.

But yeah, never mind on that one.  :P

Jason -
Is that dart end the one with the embossed circles that looks like a bullseye?

I wouldn't mind a couple A/B sets of those if you have them cast.

No.

However that Bullseye end is very cool.  I while I don't know that I've seen a drawing I know a really good picture exists.  That could be done at some point.

The good thing about Atlas is that you know both versions will be on the market within 18 months, and that the door parts from both versions will be welcome.

The 50' PS-1 is a must for us 60's - early 80's modelers! I have both MTL and Athearn but hopefully Atlas will come out with one like their 40' version, there are tons of schemes to do so I think they would sell quite well. But for now the Athearn seems to be  the superior model. I think the MTL version is the only 50' boxcar of their line that is not vertically compressed

This guy has sold a couple million of these on eBay. None listed currently but you could try to contact him. I have 12 or so of these shells, but I don't think that I am not ready to part with them. He has had almost their entire product line for sale at some point at very good prices.

Best wishes, Dave

Pretty cool. I wonder which PS-1 version these were. Will keep an eye out.

Mark5,

If you do not mind stripping the cars there is an abundance of all three types on the bay. Just search for Athearn PS1 Box Car.

Regards

Al

Yeah, I know. $25 a pop delivered is not my idea of cost effective for a model that I will strip. ;) Still, this is an option if I get desperate.
