I'm looking to upgrade my rolling stock by replacing some of my 80's and 90's vintage cars.  What cars are available with both body mounted couplers and metal wheel sets?

Atlas:  Front-Runner TOFC; 85' Trash Flatcar; PS-1 Boxcar*; 42' Coil Car.
Bachmann:  AAR Steel 40' Boxcar*; Northeast Steel Caboose; ACF 10k Gallon Tank*; ACF 3-Dome Tank*;
BLMA:  all rolling stock except for the NS Top-Gon.
ESM:  Class X58 Boxcar.
ExactRail:  all models released beginning in 2012.
FVM:  B&O Wagontop Boxcar; MILW 50' Boxcar; all passenger equipment.
Rapido:  all Panorama-Line models.
Trainworks:  PS85 TOFC.

* = Newest tooling superseding older tooling still available.

All manufacturers have moved to body-mounted couplers at this point.  Many offer metal wheels on some of their models with truck-mounted couplers.  In nearly all cases it is easy to add metal wheels and body-mounts.  It is best to review the specifications for the models you are interested in on the respective manufacturer websites.

But as for cars in your era, very little.

I have a bunch of those on order but you're right, no indication if they are body mount couplers. The previous releases have not been. I guess I need to modify my statement to say the newer 5344 SD box has body mounts. With the trend to body mount couplers I hope this new release has them.

I emailed Matt at FVM and asked him about the cars with body mount couplers. His reply was just about everything released lately including the ones asked about .

He said "Just about every car that is released now had body mounted couplers, including the recently released FMC 5347 SIngle Door and the FMC 5283 double door cars. Thanks."

"Guess I will be buying more FVM cars(actually I've been planning to anyway  :D ).

I like FVM, I like what they're doing, etc... but I've got to caution about the body mounted cars. Definitely look before you buy, because even though they check all the right boxes, going body mount on some of them caused ride height issues.

I hope Matt's gotten that taken care of by now, but I'd be leery before you pull the trigger sight unseen.

Ed, I have learned to buy nothing without a close inspection. That does not work on the bay ,but I would not buy anything off of there without knowing what it is.

Never the less for those that don't know you give excellent advise.

Not sure if Intermountain has moved to body mounts. Have they? In my opinion they are the last of the tippy toes manufacturers. For example even FVM and MT have moved to body mounts, lowering their cars and they are now producing good stuff.

Has FVM started putting body mounts on their old stuff, such as their 5344 PS boxcars and their FMC boxcars??

InterMountain was one of the first majors to start using body-mounts on some of their rolling stock.  The 60'  flatcar, for example, has an integrated coupler pocket.  The question was which rolling stock has both body-mounts and metal wheels.  Most if not all of InterMountain rolling stock is equipped with plastic wheels.

Yes, you're right about the flats.

But IM's latest release the 57' Mechanical Reefers don't have body mounts and they sure could use them since they ride very high. They are an otherwise nice car.

If they had body mounts I would have purchased a dozen of them. Instead I have two of them on my work bench waiting for me to find the time to put on the mounts.

All of those should have body mounts and FVM wide tread wheels.  However, the SP car is the only one that has been delivered as of this writing, AFAIK.
