any chance of smooth side boxcars down the road such as X63s?

Doubtful.  The X65 is a good fit because it utilizes the X58 Hydra-Cushion underbody and detail parts.

Sweet, more Lehigh Valley love from ESM!

Yes, the Deepwater green cars.

ESM must do this scheme...

I'll put it on the list.  Century green NYC is first though.

Brian, what is the difference between the X58 and X65? What roads used the G36 besides PRR (I assume PC/CR)? That P&LE coil car is hot!
Any of these in service in 1987-89? Looking like CPBU is going to be heavy with ESM goodness  :)
Short story (references @ home) - X58 built by PRR shops; X65 built by NYC (Despatch) shops.  Both 50-foot outside-post with plug doors, but different number of side panels and different ends.
This is correct, as the X65 has an extra rib on either side of the door.  The roof and ends are the unique Despatch Shops design used for decades.  The X65 is the Penn Central designation, but the first batch was built for NYC and P&LE around 1965 or so.  The first lot was built with roofwalks and high brake hardware.  Subsequent lots for PC and P&LE were built with no roofwalks and low brake hardware.  This is the version ESM will be offering.  The LV cars were part of the PC lots, thus were painted PC Deepwater Green to save on cost.

PRR, PC and CR on the G36.

P&LE Breadbox coil cars were in service still in 1989, in the black scheme with large yellow billboard initials.  A sizable number of the X65 classes also would have been active then.

Bryan,

I love that Conrail caboose.

Is it at least possible one of those cabooses made it to the CSX- maybe even as a shared asset?

Thanks Bryan, we'll have to find a nice Canadian prototype for you to tackle next. Given the proximity to the border, CDN cars we're (and still are) a dime a dozen in the Northeast.

Man, we are having a a great 2013... lots of new freight car body styles. And mostly from manufacturers that have been established in the last 10 years or so, or at the least have just started to get into the mfg of new rolling stock.

Too bad N scale is dying

Which ones?  The G32C will follow the Keyser Valley caboose in the MIA series, sometime this spring.  The G36 will be later in the MIA series toward the end of the year or the beginning of next year, as there are at least two models ahead of it in the series.

Ron, unfortunately the N4D was gone before the end of the caboose era - which is a shame, as it is arguably the best-looking of the inherited caboose classes, particularly the vandal screen equipped version.  Only nine of them survived to serve active duty into Conrail, as the railroad mistakenly thought they were too light from a crew-safety standpoint.  It wasn't until they were pulled that it was realized the bodies were fitted on former cast iron tender frames.  By then, the survivors already had been relegated to transfer duty.  But there was a brief period where they were utilized as road cabooses in the early CR years.

The modelers of Canadian roads already are getting a ton of stuff this year and beyond.  ESM did its part to hold up the fort until the cavalry arrived. :)  Now it's getting to be time to show some southern hospitality.
