It's not really practical for me to travel all the way up to New Hampshire to photograph one herald for this type of project.

This seems to have gone from a "somebody please make this" suggestion to a "production  will start sometime in 2014" reality. Where will this car be sold? Do we have to pre-order one to get it? I am one of the "4 New haven modelers" on this forum and having an MEC gon fits my roster. That said, what were these cars used for and how far from the MEC did they roam?

I believe I've found the photographer on TrainBoard.  I just sent inquiries to see if he has a high rez of this photo.  If not, it's good to know that the car is relatively close by in Connecticut.  It still would be at least a half-day excursion to find and photograph the prototype (and, it is a restored prototype rather than an original prototype), so I'm hoping that will be a last resort.  I also sent an email to the RMNE to see if they will reveal their source for the MEC lettering specs.

Still four more schemes to finish though.  The ACL specs I have, they just need to be drawn.  On the SCL, I just need a lettering arrangement and the dimensional data specs, as I have all of the required fonts and heralds.  The SCL photo that was referenced earlier in this thread is an SAL repaint, which has many more side ribs.

It will be released as a craftsman kit in the ESM Made In America series.  Not nearly as complex as the Keyser Valley caboose, but it still will require assembly and finishing by the modeler.  Currently, the projected run is 50 pieces.  But if the Railwire contingent's collective demand exceeds that, the production run will be extended accordingly.  The Made In America series is sold only through the ESM website.  I will start another thread specifically for collecting advance reservations, similar to what was done for the laser-cut wood flatcar decks a couple of years ago.

If you are referring to the MEC logo, it's been used on other equipment primarily box cars. It would be considered an older style logo for the MEC.

There isn't anybody up up there to even take pictures, let alone post them.   :D

They don't brew it. It comes out of a spring.

You probably heard of Poland Springs in Maine.
Well, the other spring there is German Springs - beer comes out of that one.  But it is a secret - don't tell anybody about this!  :)

I am happy to say that I am not old enough to have been able to take a picture of the real thing! 8)

I do have pics somewhere although none any better than what has been posted here.

Drawings of the MEC rectangular herald will be en route next week.  The remaining major void among the deco schemes is the SCL repaint.  If anyone has photos of that, it would be helpful.  Keep in mind that the ex-SAL low-side gondolas also were repainted after the merger, so number of side ribs must be noted.

Here are other paint schemes for this gondola:
Barely visible circle herald:

The following is on Kenneth Houghton’s picture site at: http://railimages.fototime.com/

One of the things I like about the MEC is that there didn’t appear to be any guidelines for repainting rolling stock. The as-delivered cars came consistent, but after that all bets were off. It seemed like whatever stencils were available at the time and any one of the MEC base colors.
