Just got a Shapeways shipment and...

I could not believe how bad FUD has become.  I made four parts, two each of my two new MOW decks.

They have roughness on EVERY SIDE - and some areas are covered in a layer of melted clear, shiny goop - NOT WAX.  Actually they
appear wax free. 

Major disappointment.  Pictures to follow. 

They came from the Queens NY plant - any other experiences?

When I had an issue with a Shapeways model I just contacted them, sent a photo, and they refunded my money.
The Dutch team was friendly, helpful, open to suggestions for improvement, and overall very lovely (even though their National Team was bombing out of the Euro Cup at the time  ).
Don't think anything I've gotten was from the NY facility, though.

I think it is hit or miss. I have ordered stuff from other peoples Shapeway store and it came without issue, simple cleaning and it looked great. Custom stuff that I wanted made, I went to Ponoko because I can control the print access (and its cheaper).

I ordered the PRR H10 tender and it arrived with broken off parts and pretty rough surface. I knew the issues going in, so I can only blame myself. No more for me, however I may send pics, broken parts are a packaging issue.

Some more info - I cleaned the models - and the clear gook was some sort of new material I had not seen before on models - perhaps some sort of release agent?

On examination there is roughness on all sides - very random roughness - not the sintering lines or aliasing type lines I recall from the past.  There is also "corruption" of details - for example where I represent a door in a truck body by raising it a smidgen, there is "noise" above and around the door.

I filed a complaint, waiting to hear back.

I just tried uploading some of my designs to Ponoko - and they were ALL rejected as non-manifold meshes.

I know I can fix this, but tell the 10 second pitch on Ponoko - do they have something similar to FUD?
