Hi Josh,

You are on. The centre mullion is too thick/wide and the opening is too small and on the 25th of February 1943 they had a single large pain of glass. There also needs to be a panel in the door :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

http://www.nmra-mer-tidewater.org/coaches.htm

I rest my case at this time your honor and ask that you make Josh the terrible move to Australia to buy me that beer. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Not to totally jack this thread and make it about P70's... sorry mods! I won't be butthurt if you segment this off.

But this is good discussion and you are telling me things I need to know. Maybe you folks can help me out.
You got me on the double window panel thickness, but as far as panels on the doors, here are pictures giving evidence to the contrary. Perhaps I am somehow misinterpreting as information like this is a bit tough to find. You gotta remember that Pennsy died 15 years before I was even born.

This was taken in 1961:

P70R in 1947:

P70fR in 1937:

Another P70fR in 1947:

So Al, I'd love to get these as accurate as I can, but I can't seem to find consistency in my research.

I'll send you a beer, but sorry, it will be a PBR. If you can find more info for me, I'll bump it up to a Miller Light, maybe even a Miller High Life! It's the champagne of beers!  ahahahah!  :D :D

When the PRR liked something, they built them by the hundreds or thousands.  As the P70 fleet was upgraded, repaired, specialized, etc., significant differences began to pop up in vestibules, rooflines, and underbody details.  And then came all the modernization rebuilds...

An SPF faces a choice...  Pick a very specific car you have photos of and build it, or capture an average of the features for a generic car.  I've chosen the latter.

For being the Standard Railroad of the World, they sure weren't standard on some of the things they did.  You also have the rebuilt P70s that have the porthole window on the side.  I always liked those.  I could go for some modernized P70ks or Py70gsr.

My parents told me they went to my grandparents in Indiana when I was 1 year old and they took the train out of Harrisburg.  Always wondered what type of coach we rode on.

Hi Josh,

They are completely rebuilt doors like in replacements not with a piece stuck in the middle. I have to agree with Dave, what is your car number and what date are you modelling it so I can confirm your story. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

All jokes aside the P70 fleet would have to be the most interesting  subject you could come across. This link http://passcarphotos.info/ is one of the best I know for photos like:

which gives you a clear outline view.

But then there's something like this:

These show part of the North Shore RailRoads Polar Express holiday consist. Car 1955 has BOTH types of doors on the car. I'm no expert, but I guess these are P70s due to the end glass in the vestibules. These were taken by my wife in PA last year.

Can the admins maybe move the P70 posts to a proper thread

Thinking that if anyone goes looking for information on p70 coaches they wont go looking under "Upcoming Mt heavyweight dining car"
This is some good information that would be a shame to say "wonder where that talk about the p70s doors went??"

Howdy.

We are working on the Dining car and not sure about the release date.  It will have proper trucks, already have them drawn up.  :D

Joe
MTL

So this model is getting completley new trucks?  PRR specific trucks??   8) That will actually roll? If so this is great news. However, there is cause for pause, will they really be correct for the PRR?  Care to post the art work so they can be verified.  SPF's have been disappointed in the past on "Pennsy correctness".
Thanks

towl1996,

I think Joe has enough on his plate already. I do hope that they are correct for PRR but you have got to remember that PRR trucks were used under a number of other roads as well. Even the so called PRR 2D-P5 trucks

http://varnish.pennsyrr.com/PRRTrucks/DGS_PRR_PTrucks_P06.htm

are very similar if not the same as the trucks under some N&W stock. The PRR had a big influence on quite a number of roads. But all that said at the end of the day is that the truck must be viable.

Go Joe, just get the Dining Car done.

Just submit a search for "P70."   Thread-drift topics will appear in the search window.

Has there been any indication when this new dining car will be released by MTL?

No not yet. Last indication from Joe is that they had commenced tooling as well as a new truck.
