John, have you decided what season your layout is going to be?  I'm going to be putting more leaves through the blender and sifting them while there's still enough of them in the backyard to gather, otherwise it will be many months before there are more.  If you want me to grind up some extra for you, let me know.  Same thing for Josh, as I know he'll be needing some for his HCD.

It might be awhile before there's any leaves green enough to try that.  I do have an old jar of dried basil in my spice cabinet I've been meaning to put into the compost pile.  I'll try a tree with that, plus it should smell pretty good.

The trees look absolutely stunning! They sure beat those that I made for my layout that Joey Uboats now owns. Those weren't the easiest to make if I remember correctly. You'll have to give a tutorial on how to make them when I build a new loop for my layout. I'm thinking I'm going to want to replace all of the trees with this kind as they look so very real! Now to figure out how to use fall colors on them.

I am looking forward to the meeting of the A$$hats on Sunday afternoon, just let me know what I need to contribute to the party. Maybe the guys will not razz me too badly since I have visited a lot of Pennsy scenic sites upon your worthy recommendation. Just how many New York Central Guys have an appreciation for Horseshoe curve, and can say they actually spent a part of their vacation there AND at the Pennsy Railroad museum in Lancaster?

Thanks, your layout is one of the ones that inspired me to update all the scenery on mine.  Just planted a few of them on the tunnel access hatch to see how they look.



Josh, since Chevy (Walt) was my 2nd Horn for about 10 years, he kind of gets a pass on his Vanderbiltian perversities.  Kind of...

Nice Bob!  It nees a thin bike track right up the hill on the left side and down the other.  Remember thos paths to the woods when you were young?  It reminds me of a hill in shelby township I used to ride my bike up and down on as a kid.  The path was 8" deep down to the dirt.  Ahh the memories!

I will be bringing some PRR drawings sunday for your viewing pleasure.  I may cast those concrete berm walls just yet!

After a long day of watching me clean the basement and workshop, as well as getting the layout operating up to standards, the gentle sound of a Pennsy Trainmaster pulling 25 metal wheel equipped cars was too much for George. 



If he keeps growing, I'm going to have to build a bigger layout.  A canvas drop cloth makes a decent impromptu bead;  good to know.

I picked up two colors of unsanded grout, charcoal and earth;  much more than I need in a couple of lifetimes.  Still experimenting as how to use it, as most of my ground is already covered with dirt.  I'm thinking of using the dark gray over the ballasted cinders with some dirt thrown in to shrink down the textures.

Hmmm, let's see Bass Trombone, Troll at large. Ok. So I usually ignore the Bass slush pump players in the bands and orchestras I play with and I do like trolls (sometimes) But darkside? NAH!!! You don't play the Saxophone, NOW THOSE GUYS are the darkside residents, with that honking style of sound. What was Adolph Sax thinking when he invented those things. Every one of those things should be loaded on an old Pennsy Gondola and taken and dumped in a land fill.

I look forward to meeting you this Sunday. If you tease me too much, I've got a metal cane, I'm not afraid to unleash it, LOL 

I know Bob's got my back, especially when I bring GOOD quality beer.

Oddly enough, if I didn't play the bone, I'd want to play bari sax. I got a thing for contrabass instruments. Someday I hope to own an F contrabass trombone. Only fifteen grand

Sorry to interrupt chicken's nerd thread.  I planted a few more trees in a different area to get an idea of how Ed's scale tree size idea would look on my layout.



The tree on the right is about an  N scale 80' tall.  I'm thinking of keeping the tree heights 60-100 feet tall, with most of them being in the middle of that.
