My big question is will the D78 diner have the proper trucks. That's kind of a big deal for me. Yeah, Kato makes them, but WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE THEM ATTACH THE WAY EVERY OTHER TRUCK DOES?

whew I'm ok

Good question on the proper trucks.  Are they going with older 6 wheel or modernized 4 wheel trucks?

Just checked N Scale Supply.  The cars they have are lettered U.S. army.  I don't mind stripping and repainting cars but those damn stripes on the side of PRR passenger cars drive me up a wall.  Swore years ago I was not going to do those anymore.  So I'll keep looking.

Howdy.

We are working on the Dining car and not sure about the release date.  It will have proper trucks, already have them drawn up.  :D

+1 to you, good sir!
It's gotta be the 6 wheel. What trucks did they get when modernized?

Modernized trucks for these cars are a dead ringer for the Kato inside swing hanger tread brake trucks as shown under the 1994 release of the Pullman and ACF cars.  They had 6.5x12 bearing centers and a larger center plate load rating to accommodate the greater weight of the diner.  6x11 trucks would not have been able to carry the weight.  Of course in N scale, this is all relative.......

Looks like the as buikt trucks were 3C-P1.  They got 3D-P1 trucks in the mid 30's, if my research is corret.
I see a few modernized ones in the 50's had 2F-P1 trucks. It seems a lot of those modernized ones (not all of them) had arch roofs. I'm guessing MTL will stick with the clerestory roofs and give us 3D-P1 trucks.

But I'm no expert...

Joe,

I don't care so long as it is a PRR Car. Much prefer the six wheel. My B70 is just going to look great. Could do with about 5 of the dining cars and some more headend cars as well.

Bob,

Using the right lining pen should only take a couple of minutes each car and give a very fine finish.

John,

That F25 is looking good.

Regards

Al

I am very much looking forward to these diners.

rebuilt vestibule doors.

Dave, how did you rebuild the doors?  I've got a few of these standing by for upgrading/repainting.

Styrene.

Did you scratch new doors, or were you able to modify the existing ones?

These doors drove me crazy. There are a LOT of variations. I've seen completely flat doors, doors with lips...skinny double windows...modernized rounded windows...
I ended up scraping the doors out and put a plate on there.

This was the most practical way for me to assemble these. If any of them aren't prototypcal, be sure to buy the person who points it out a beer because they really must know their P70's!
