Locomotives in Nate Goodman's Yard

              Here are a series of photos taken by Bob G of all the locomotives that are out on my railroad 90% of tjhe time used for my OP Sessions. The railroad yard is fully functional,but not yet scenically finished. Hard to see in the first three stalls on the right of the first RH building three SP SD-9 diesels. Note (hard to read) Utah Colorado & Western diesel ,this is not a Utah Railway locomotive.Other views show the yard overall. The two switch engnes are run as a pair and are replaced with other road name switchers, or non SW locos (Baldwins) . Nate Goodman (Nato). "Hope you like em!"

What scale is the model in that last photo?

       The box that "Sonsaku Hakufu" came in lists her scale as 1/7 Scale. The Japanese are very good about listing this. Nate Goodman (Nato).

That roundhouse really needs a coat of paint to kill the swirly multi-coloured plastic look that Heljan? liked to use for some reason!

    True,The roundhouse on the right is stock with the swirled color and light green roof,will get weathered in the end, the one on the left had been weathered,has a black roof. Nate Goodman (Nato).

Serious question since I am laying out a yard with a similar situation - a double ended yard ladder, with one both a long reach and over the engine terminal.  Do you ever switch that end of the yard in ops sessions, or do you work it from the other end almost exclusively?

      Rossford, During Operating Sessions both ends get used. Train leingth is usually not counting the caboose 16 or so cars. The two tcacks down the center are in bound and out bound tracks. Looking straight down the yard towards loco service area in one photo tracks on left are in bound, there is a arrived not broken up train on arrival track. Tracks on right are outbound,and departure track is emp[ty in photo. Switch engines, usually a pair of diesels,or rairly an 0-8-0 will make up an out bound train with caboose, power for the train can run through from diesel service area,or a steamer also run through that area to be added to head of train. Arriving cars put in the inbound side of the yard have their waybills flipped to outbound destinations on branch line or no card in pocket meaning it will remain in a train that will do round de round and interchange some cars at branch unterchange. Cars with flipped or no cards are switched over to out bound tracks after some cars empty space when they become a departing train. Yes both ends of the yard are essential to my ops,especially since I have probably kept too many cars out for op sessions overloading the yard. Nate Goodman (Nato). *Note hard to see in photos the yard is angled away from the layout edge,not parallel with it. This was done to get maximum track leingth in a fairly short leingth space.
