I've been working on a Milwaukee Road Atlas RS3. I have already modified the body to phase III, moved the horns and added numberboards. Bought some blunt truck sideframes from Shapeways that fit the Life-Like switcher. Surprisingly they seem to work under the Atlas mechanism. I had to do some trimming on the inside of the sideframes as they are a little too tight on the trucks. I think I can paint them now.

Courtesy of Superstorm Sandy, I passed the time waiting for the power to be restored by making progress on Dr. Vollmer's Lewistown station bash. Working by flashlight, I added the roof, and resized all of the openings to accept Grandt Line windows and doors.

In other news, I've officially begun a new layout: the White River and Northern VI, a small freelance Nn3 line based loosely on the Tweetsie. I've started a thread in the Layout Engineering section, and also updated the layout's website, where there's a detailed story on events leading to the new project.

Gee Bill that's the first time I ever saw an RS-3 wearing a pair of Blounts . I had to see a prototype , not that I would ever question you . http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=733826 . Looks a bit like a fat lady in ballet shoes .

Here is an almost complete CAD model of a Truss Bridge I'm building I got the inner girders almost complete as I've just finished adding GMM etched brass lacing bars to the brass flat bar side plates just need the archer rivets and some stay plates on the inner members then I can begin the main chords. There is a deck plate span too that I have to add the truss bridge was a 225' span and the deck plate is 100'. This bridge crossed the Conrail mainline at Bradylake ohio, it once carried the LE&P railroad that was jointly owned by the PRR and NYC it was a unique small railroad operation that ran from Cleveland to Youngstown Ohio it mainly serviced the steel industry. The line was abandoned in 1968 by PC and the bridge stood abandoned till Conrail removed it in 1994. It was cool to watch Conrail freights fly by beneath the bridge while standing on it a little scary though as the tracks were removed from the bridge and you had to walk on 30" wide X beams!

Maybe because they are unpainted, but these blunt sideframes look a bit odd.  They seem very flat and the shape is angular.  IMO, Arnold has captured blunt truck's shape very well in their S2 model.  Still, this is a pretty interesting conversion.

They have a bit more relief than that picture would seem to indicate. Here's how they look painted:

That said, glad it worked out! Certainly an interesting look!

I think that if you were to replace the wheels with those from NWSL, the trucks would look 100% better. Those Life-Like wheels are killing any realism.

My MOW Department has received several new cars for work service.

Tool Car BCOL 6503 is the first car completed for my model of the Prince George Auxiliary train:

PGE 991130 was one of several Emergency Rail Cars.  This one was assigned to Chetwynd:

PGE 993302 was a power car for outfit service with a diesel generator inside:

BCOL 993454 was a diesel fuel tank car for outfit service:

BCOL 993501 was a water supply car with a tank car body inside:

BCOL 994016 was a tie car:

Also commissioned a fleet of eight Fairmont M19 speeders for track inspection and MOW work:

Jeff Briggs completed the speeders for me, and weathered the models pictured above for me after I applied the decals.

Yeah, that's much better. They still seem to have a bit of a "digital" look to them, but painted they look quite acceptable.

I found a good photo for comparison.

Another structure...this is a scratchbuilt barn reminiscent of some found here in the Pacific NW.

I think the biggest problem with the Shapeways switcher trucks is the Life-Like wheelsets

Wow Bryan - impressive weathering on the barn! :o   Great job!  Can't wait to see how you add scenery around it!   Please post pics when you do!
