Bachmann 2-6-0 prototype

So the new 2-6-0 is out now and it is based on a GBW prototype:


My question is what other railroads had 2-6-0 with this same valve gear?

(looking for a reason to buy one)

Chris, she was built by Alco in 1924, but to me appears to be of a much older design given her light weight, driver size and inside firebox. There must have been hundreds of similar moguls by the time she was delivered. Put another way, who needs an excuse to buy one...:)
There is plans on p. 46 of Westcott's Steam Locomotives Cyclopedia put out by MR many years ago.

I have the plans. Problem is every 2-6-0 I find is older than dirt with piston valves and simple sliders.

I think I see what Chris is talking about here.  Even the MP engine has very simple valve gear,
not the more advanced full-blown Walschaerts like the new 2-6-0 has.
Here's Chris' photo with a few parts marked on it.  You can see that all these parts are not on the MP engine :



(and yes, somebody has been making valve gear parts lately, so he has been studying up.. heh heh)

I never thought about it before.  The 2-6-0 is an "old" wheel arrangement in the scheme of things, so maybe it is unusual to
find one with more advanced valve gear.

But I'm looking for real locomotives that are like the Bachmann model. I don't think any of the roadnames offered by Bachmann are correct. If there are 100's of similar locos then where are they?

I know what you're after, Chris.  You'd think that if Alco were building 2-6-0's in the 1920s with Walshaerts valve gear,
how come we can't find any examples?

But you're right.  I'm not finding any 2-6-0 by a railroad (not the little privately-owned examples above) that
had valve gear like this new one, except the GB&W.

If you go to steamlocomotive.com and look through the mogul listings, you will actually find quite a few.
Some examples I looked at-
Republic Iron and Steel #24 Baldwin 1913-walschaert
(may have been used in Ohio; their other moguls were)
Pittsburg,Shawmut and Northern #15,16,17 Baldwin 1913-wal.
New York,Ontario & Western- quite a number found there.

Now we're getting somewhere!  I love the plow on the Everett RR. #11 and in the photo labeled "#11 on a B&H freight" she is pulling and Erie milk reefer.

I'm sure liking that tender.  The high bunker sides with the curvy ends make it look like it would make some nice NP
fodder....  hope it becomes a "replacement part" eventually.

Interesting, the GB&W loco above has different trucks than the ones Bachmann used, but at least the tender looks right.  8)
