While that photo of the full repaint is from 2006, the repainting would have taken place before use the simplified paint scheme, which started in the 1985-86 time frame.

I will look through my collection to see if I have photos of these from the 1980s.

The two-piece COTS dates the repaint to at least before 1982... I just posted the photo to show a similar scheme to what MTL did was at least put on a car... I want to see 80's photo to confirm the color of the lettering, as last time I checked, UP used red lettering in the 50's and 60's, on silver LOs... afterward it was black on grey.  Any input Joe?

Thats a set, not a car. Nothing like the pumpkin two years ago or the skull last year. I'm with mu26ae, very dissappointed.

If I remember, those were both considered "Weathered / Graffiti Car" releases which don't happen till the middle of the month. Don't be dissapointed until the weathered cars are anounced mid month.

Well Joe I am not Dave, but I would love to see Canadian National, Boston and Maine, Maine Central and Bangor and Aroostook done on some of the heavyweights, even though they would not be exact matches they would find there way home with me. A runners pack of BAR 40' steel ice reefers would be nice too.
If you are still working on a single window plan coach it would be nice to see a 2 axle truck option for it as well as the three axle truck.

I'll second this especially the BAR reefers.  MEC and BAR heavy weights would be a welcome addition as would 33' hoppers in both.

Yes, and they were announced Sept 13th. All the weathered cars are announced mid month, off cycle from the regular monthly announcements.

Not Joe, but I have been taking photos of UP covered hoppers extensively since the 1980s.  My collection includes hundreds of photos of covered hoppers, both repainted ones and those in their as delivered paint schemes.  The black lettering on either a light gray or dark gray car body is by far the most common paint scheme. 

Only a handful of classes appear to have had the red lettering on aluminum colored car bodies.  I have a number of photos of Airslides, both single and two-bay, and the 14500 series of 3-bays covered hoppers (CH 90-13) that entered the 1980s with aluminum bodies and red lettering, but when they were repainted, they received gray bodies, and generally the simplified small UP shield paint scheme.  The most notable exceptions to the gray car bodies and black lettering for repaints in the 1980s are some Airslides that were repainted in Pocatello in 1984.

In my photos, all of the UP system covered hoppers assigned to grain service and soda ash service appear to be painted gray with black lettering.

However, the UP and WP cars assigned to haul sugar and/or flour were often the ones with the aluminum colored car bodies and red lettering.

The prototype for the Dry-Flo covered hopper that BLMA is making evaded my camera, so I don't know if any of those were ever painted in anything other than aluminum with red lettering.

While I know this is not conclusive that the two 4427 cu-ft cars that Micro-Trains is releasing for October were not repainted into the aluminum car body with red lettering scheme when they came from Rock Island, it would have been inconsistent with the practice at that time to have them repainted into that paint scheme.

And while MT has done another halloween themed graffiti car, I'd wish they stick to something prototype like their first offering.  There are many to choose from out there
