UP 819 project looking, good!

I took a brake from all the Free-moN stuff to finally finish Randgust's 18-ton Climax kit I started over a year and a half ago 
Also took the Mt. Coffin & Columbia River layout outside to shoot in the sun (after vacuuming off all the cobwebs & dust):

No modeling for me this week. I'm still in Singapore on vacation. Singapore has been a real surprise, its such a nice city and everyone so friendly. Lots of opportunity for photos. Seems like a great place to live, as long as you don't break the law.

We already went through Malaysia, stopping in KL (a big let down, its just a growing city of shopping malls with no real history), Putiajava(the new capitol and very impressive architecture, and  Maleka, the former Dutch and British colony teaming with museums.

One of the things that shocked me was that Malaysia does not really show any pre-Islamic history. Its a bit sad as I was really looking forward to seeing the Malaysian world view on Thai aggression in the 12-17 centuaries beforefor being sacked by Cambodia.

Pre-colonial SE Asian history had me really interested due to the many parallels with Europe during the middle ages.

Got my initiation in using a pin vise and tiny drill bits as I installed a bunch of "fiddly bits" to the cabs of 607 and 611.

. . . . . . We could hear the FM OP engines chanting away in the distance so I raced to the Wheeling crossing at OH 261 in time to – you guessed it – watch the engines roll by at a distance and on the other side of a cut of cars.  Such luck.

Working on a kitbash of the private car "Sierra Hotel".  All the details are on so now it's off to the paint shop!

Installed one stupid decoder out of the millions I have backlogged, and once again, TCS lets me down with a dud.  I really wish I wasn't their quality control department.

Wisconsin Cehntral modelers might want to consider the same sort of kitbash since the prototype was leased for a time by the line...

I actually have something to contribute and some of the more active modelers don't? Maybe the world will end this year. 

Aside from the usual painting of wheelsets, I made some headway on my F-unit build. I had a few shells that cracked when used the Scalecoat paint remover (works great, but don't leave them in for more than 10 minutes). I got dicouraged, but came back to it a couple of days ago. Here's the work I've done with the previously cracked shells:

BN F9A 824:
First I sanded down the mold lines on the nose of the unit (I have to do this to the rest of the A-units I'm doing) and then I cut some of the pilot off to make room for the plow to be added. I don't have the plow in front of me to determine how much I need to cut off, so I left a bit on. I don't think any of the other BN F9As had plows, and this one was given to me with a messed up pilot:

The skirt on 824 cracked in many places, but I wound up cutting most of it off per the prototype:


I also repaired cracks on the roof and skirts of F7B 737 (looks like a late F3B) and F9B 777 (I want that number, but can only find a couple of proto pics). Still have yet to cut skirts and blank out the portholes:
