Just pulled this out of the waters that are the interwebz and it looks like something that deserves to be modeled...
How in the heck would i go about it? Has someone already tried? Anyone ever made a kit in N? Anyone ever made it in RTR?

What era are these even from?

Because kitbashing an H10 isn't already enough and it is just too much of a funny looking car...

Because i'm a sucker for really odd looking rolling stock and sometimes loads...

Plus this one really warrants a  :drool:


And what a loco to pull it all with...

Plus a possible helper...


It's also because i'm young and somewhat stupid... besides, money is for spending right?  :D

Those thingies are K-9 50ft stock cars. Pic #1 is the original K9, pic #2 is a K9b and pic #3 is a modified K9 with a single door.

The similar stock cars I have are B&O S-1 (single deck) and S-2 (double deck). The 50ft PRR K7 stock car is available.

Although I have the artwork finished for the K9s, I have not pulled the trigger yet.

Your flat car photos, pic #1 is a F25, pic #2 is the FD-1/2 aka Queen Mary

You don't happen to have the artwork to do the FD-1/2 do you?  :D
I might be willing to liquidate some assets to get my hands on one.
Though the hard part would be the trucks... which would require some shapeways magic.

Since with N-Trak you get the ubiquitous 100+ car coal drags, intermodal strings, and sometimes road-railers... My thing has become the unusual rolling stock, dimensional loads, and some Hazmat loads. It does open up possibilities for many eras, but when i can find something such as the "Queen Mary" that combines the unique aspect as well as the PRR in the 40s-50s era, then it becomes a must have.

I get a Micro-Trains 50' Wagon Top boxcar and build new sides
for it. Looks like the prototype had enough variation, that you
dont need to worry about being "dead on".  :o

Just for info.  I believe those stockcars were built after PRR went all diesel and electric.

Car diagrams for most of Pennsy's latish rolling stock are avalable online. A copying machine and the right enlargement or reduction gives you a paper pattern for the sides. And like someone said, a MTL round roof box and you're pretty much set. Easy peasey...

Hi Jim,

I think that the Queens Mary (Obs) is achievable, and if Dick from FNS can produce the X31 and X32 box car then a one piece body K11 and K9 would also be achievable. I am intrigued by



especially the one in the middle foreground. I have not seen a pic of this car before.

I can't tell you where I'd start modeling any of these.
But here's a "fun fact"....

That Queen Mary FD-2 flat car is at the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona, PA.  I visited there
many times when I lived in Pennsylvania.  But the wonderful, bittersweet, joyous, agonizing thing about that
flat car is that those big 8-wheel trucks it rides on are tender trucks from the PRR T-1 4-4-4-4 steam locomotive.
As such, they are the only piece of a T-1 I've ever seen, or ever will see, because they were all scrapped.

That is exactly what i thought of when i saw it. The doors should be an interesting kitbash or stratch-together.

As for the FD-2, Does anyone make a separate T1 tender truck, or are they just relegated to the brass imports? If they can be had separately i might just undertake this as a project.

As for the center-cab... What the heck would one use for that. I'd think a chassis would be easy enough to find, but the shell looks a bit perplexing in terms of a starting point.

I guess i'll be  :trollface: 'in ebay for a suitable 50'er to butcher. Working doors will be interesting...

When I was there a couple  weeks ago, they were setting "QM" up to use as a bandstand...
