Weekend Update 2012/09/09

Well, never really did much over the weekend. But on Friday, today, and probably for the rest of the month, I'm refurbishing a 50+ year old wood desk (complete with swing-up typewriter drawer/shelf) in my wood-shop class. A former teacher brought it in after she saved it from being sent to a landfill. Mostly the work is just sanding down the top and refinishing it, plus some cleaning on the sides. No interior work that need be done so once it's done, it'll find its way into my basement as my new modelling bench.
 ...of course that means i need more light in the basement.

Not too much on the model railroading front for me. I did build a new server and picked up a new camera (Canon 7D)as well as some new glass for it in the form some L series zooms and macros.

I have been spending a few hours here and there this past week working on several retaining walls and bridge abutments, as well as building one of two switch towers. The first tower is Bernie's C&O Standard Cabin in acrylic.

A touch late for the weekend, but I'm just back from North Carolina where I got to once again prowl around jusTRAINcrazy's outstanding layout of the Winston-Salem Southbound and the High Point, Thomasville and Denton.  Here's a couple of shots that won't be seen in ink...









That last shot is a bridge about 1/2 mile from his house, you actually take the exit ramp depicted to get there.  Pretty cool stuff.

Lee, that highway overpass scene looks fantastic. JTC nailed it... even has the crazy American 'too short' exit lane. I suppose NCDOT just paved the far lanes and haven't painted the markings yet?

What are you using for your retaining walls? looks quite interesting.

Hmm, that MP15-DC looks awfully familiar  ... i might have to check my briefcase to see if mine is still there...

It's vinyl floor tile, scored and snapped to make blocks. He talks about it on his Layout Engineering Report thread:
