DCC Conversion Question

Can anyone tell me if the early (1996) runs of Kato's SD-45 are DCC compatible?

Bonus points if you share what decoder you used !

Eja,
The best (read that as the least amount of frame modification needed) decoder that can be used on this loco is the TCS CN decoder.

Remeber that while this does not need frame modifications, it does require soldering. It is not plug and play..

I prefer the DZ125 but thats needs a frame mod to get it in there.

The early Kato SD45 I have - GN and WC - are not DCC ready.
I used TCS CN decoder. The conversion is quite easy.

The CN-GP is a better fit as the LED is flush with the end of the board, the CN is good to go in ALco chassis as well as the old 30-C. I recently installed 7 of them. Bob.

This loco was my first of about 200 conversions.  It is not a drop in conversion, but with an Aztec frame it took about 30 minutes. 
You can also do this donversion by fiting a DZ125 or DZ143.  A file and a Dremel too will remove enough material to route wires.  I'll see if I can dig up the link to the conversion.
