Bachmann Alco S-4 and 2-6-0

I hope that you are a young man because the way things are looking at Atlas its gonna be a very long wait.

The very earliest of the S4s had the same frame windows as the S2 did, with the first switchers that had sealed windows were the S4s built in 10/1950 for the PRR, with all others after this date having this feature.  No S2s were built with them but a few may have had this feature retrofitted (in particular if the unit had received damage to its cab).

As I was sitting on the crapper flipping through the new MR I noticed the ad for Bachmann's RS3's The photos were horrible. So I really hope they don't start making all the diesel models we need.

As for the 2-6-0...  Just another model that I will have to pay extra for just to rip the DCC out of it.

Agreed, I had the same reaction to the big blown up RS3 pic... in a similar setting i might add. I hope it's just a bad photo rather than Bachmann going backwards...

The S4's and 2-6-0's are following the HO stuff Bachmann did earlier in the year.  Both run very well and sound good too.  I don't really expect them to do alot of the S series switchers. Who knows, it might be an Alco show this week.

Something about the Bachmann RS-3 just looks a little off to me, it must be like the EMD F /E unit nose where some people look at some models and say it isn't quite right(I can't tell with them unless it is really wrong), but either the shape or proportion just isn't right to my eye.

Bachmann only has one big announcement a year right? I guess that means no B&O EM1 yet.

I'm trying to picture this thread on the old Atlas forum... it starts off with a bunch of crabby and cynical posts from the people who think everything Bachmann makes is crap (based on the GP40 they purchased back in the 70's or something)... Then a bunch of people flaming the Bachmann Haters for being Bachmann Haters... Then a bunch of people wading in and trying to be reasonable (hey, it's not even out yet)... Then the personal insults and death threats... Then completely hijacked and moved on to a vitriolic discussion of global politics... And within 24 hours, about 10 pages of useless futility. 

Sorry, no real point to make here. It just struck me that this is probably the first major new locomotive announcement since Atlas folded their tent. Carry on, we'll see how things go

Mark you probably hit the nail right on the head.  Yes, they did make some crappy stuff years back but have made great strides in improvements.  I have a couple of their 55 tonners, an RD and one of the Doodlebugs and they are all better runners than some other brands I own.

Not this summer. They will usually have announcements in February at teh NYC Toy Fair. But they didn't have any N announcements last february.

You know the NMRA show opens tomorrow and there are likely to be some announcements from Atlas...
