Finally got a chance to paint one of my phase III RS3 shells. I left the handrails off for better photos of the shell. It's a direct shell swap and seems to fit rather well with the stock Atlas parts. I carved off the stock number boards as I will also be adding the typical Milwaukee angled number boards Might have to try doing wire handrails on the next one!

You beat me to the paint booth Bill!!  :D Looks good!! I'm still waiting on some parts that will be put on before I do any painting but will post when done. One thing I'm trying to do is find something I can use for the screens on the filters.

Snowshed #1 is as far as I can take it while on vacation.  Wood work finished, concrete footings added and lots and lots of NBWs.

To finish I just need to add the snow to the roof and install it in the scenery but these things won't happen until August some time when we are home so no further updates from me until then.

A much better approach: cut a mask that matches the outline of the band of graff, and spray/airbrush this area white. Now send it through the printer.

Sounds good, but I think I've missed something:  what is the advantage to doing this over a regular decal?

That is one serious work of art!  Well done!

Not directly related to modeling, but will become indirectly related: completed a DIY flatbed inkjet printer. ..

The purpose of this beastie is to be able to print images directly onto 3-D objects, such as freight cars, buildings, or other objects that would otherwise jam the paper tray. Largest object capacity: 3 x 8 x 10 inches.
...

So you can paint signs on plastic building flats, for instance?  Do you have to pre-treat the plastic somehow so the paint will adhere to it?

Paul

Spent Friday night running trains at Eric P.'s house. I had fun with Phil's KCS GP30. Is it sacreligious for a GP30 to pull the Southern Daylight???     :D

And thanks to Eric for teaching me how to clean my own loco wheels that night.  I admit I have been a sissy about it until he showed me exactly how to do it. Spent 30 minutes yesterday or so cleaning the wheels on my 3 DCC units and ran them all on the layout flawlessyly. Thank you Eric!!!!

Its amazing what a little teaching will do to someone's confidence!

I don't know yet, but I imagine it might require something like clear matte spray, before and especially after, to seal it.

That's a cool idea:   I eagerly await you showing us some "hardcopy"!  :D

Meantime I spent odd hours over the last week working on ballasting the east end of Savanna yard...

and the cinder base layer on the Mt. Morris branch,,,,

I figure another couple of weeks before I have all of the peripheral stuff with "older" ballast done.
Then I can then start on the mainlines.
For joy.

Paul

:? Do not understand why so many people elect to repost pictures!  Just seems to take up a lot of "space."

In a sudden flurry of activity this morning, grading crews pushed through Idaho Springs (including the team track) and continued 30 miles to just past the Coors Brewery in Golden.  I thought that grading along the soffit would be a royal pain, vis:

So after allowing the caulk to set for a bit, I cut the roadbed and removed the helix cap.  Grading continued on the floor.  The brewery is ready for track!

Spent the weekend printing 1-1 trackplans, taping them together, cutting them down, marking them on plywood, and then cutting the wood.  Not much to show but a bunch of cookie-cutter pieces waiting to be installed.  But I have about 90% of the upper level plywood cut now!
