I just worry the trains being so close to the edge, thats why I mentioned maybe more room between the tracks and edge of layout. Perhaps a edge of some type about 1/2 inch higher than the side? I remember my now 10 year old who was 8 when I had the HO layout up, she would always knock over stuff reaching past it, ect.

VTRG,

It's fairly ovious that the layout will be a roundy round. There is nothing wrong with that My Z show layout is the same.

I would to offer one suggestion though .You mentioned widening the layout so why not set that oval at an angle. It would not have to be much but the trains would not be running straight along the edge of the layout.

I lied here's #2.It was mentioned by one of the other posters about a forrested corner,I woukl like to second that notion but have trees on both sides of the tracks so the traion is running through the woods.

Yep, if you're doing PA, do the GP15-1.

*****, they even ran on Horseshoe curve...

The ONLY GP 15 I ever saw in PA was on the curve,LOL! Never saw one in eastern Pa. If I had a choice,I'd go for the U25 simply because it's a much better runner.

I agree Brian.  I will be building a 1x2 frame around the plywood edge which will give me another 3/4 inch on every side.  Not as much as I would like, but it is a small layout.  Right now, we just set it up on the coffee table in the family room.  The room has a soft, thick carpet and the layout is close to the ground.  When the kids knock something off, it has a gentle landing :)

I agree with the GP15-1. The U-Boats were all gone by the late 1980's. There is ONE that runs.

Good. Just needed to make sure someone wasn't secretly serious about modelling the 1970s.
