Plastruct products. Roof is their N scale tile. Walls are HO brick, I think it was. The HO brick was the closest as to the look I was after. A little bit of Evergreen parts here and there.

Today's rant: I "like" how plastruct thinks all N scale tile roofs are going to be small, I.E. I wish they sold it in larger sheets. Its always "fun" trying to join all the small sheets together to try to form a larger roof (see Galesburg depot.) Yeesh.

I managed to finish a bit more painting last night (A whole hour's worth). Yah, I see it. I'll go back and do some retouching later...

I did not want to paint the depot grey. However, it seems that the stone the real one is made from weathers to this grey hue over time. Most photos, and therefore most modelers, tend to model it in this color. The thing is starting to resemble a fire station more than a depot. I can't wait for some weathering. I noticed that the reds seem to come out brighter in these photos than in real life.

Here it is up against the skyboard, where it will eventually dwell...

You know how much I love your layout, but I just have to ask:  what vintage of the Waupaca depot are you after?  The original?  Or the latest with all that grafiti on it?  Either way, the stone coloration just doesn't look right to me.
Regards,
Paul

The correct version for the era of the layout would be the boarded - up vandalized version. When you begin to build one from scratch, you begin to appreciate the building itself. With that, one also begins to appreciate the effort it takes to restore the grand old lady - as has been done.

I should represent the vandalized version for the WC era. But I've grown to love the "operating/restored" version as well. I guess I'm not going to be able to force myself to board - up the windows, trash the tiles, and add graffiti after all. I just, just can't. Besides, an active version may work well for "retro" operating nights when Soo line equipment is bound to show up.  ;)

As for the shade of grey, you are right. It is not quite accurate. But you can seen some of a very near color showing here:

Please recall that my version is unweathered, ...yet. I plan to add another shade of grey over the one you see here. There will be other shades added as well. Check out the color of the "cleaned" stone as seen in the restored version of the depot! I suppose I'm going for the weathered stone look you see others model.

Just give me a bit more time...

Take all the time you need!  It is not a race, and there are no deadlines except those you impose yourself.
I wish I had more time to spend modeling.  Maybe someday!

Grassing in Waupaca. I had to mask off all existing structures, roadways, and tracks as static grass makes a bountiful mess.

This is a road underpass, no really.  :)

This is a really bad picture, but it does show that I wired - up my instrument shed.

Then I pulled the tape up...

Now to add something next to those roadways.

And lastly, I did some final painting and weathering on the Waupaca depot. It has that used look, I hope. I don't know if I can make myself board - up the windows as they should be for the period I am simulating. At least it appears forlorn.

A nice feature is that the mainline here is raised, just like the current prototype, unlike older days when trains actually called here. I.E. The tops of the rails were at the same height as the platform back then.

Here it is in context. More work to be done here.  :scared:

w.neal I love the look and feel. It would appear that the station is not being used by the railroad, might as well board up the wiindows. This would add some history to the scene.

Jah man... poet and a prophet...

Oh, and trying to jazz up the foundry's japanese stack thing a bit. I should paint the overhead crane's "track" this color as well as per prototype.

W,
The stack is now done. Leave it alone and you will achieve nirvana. Seriously - that's as good as you can get.
