Sorry - typed before coffee.  What have you thought about for the fixtures in terms of making them (Materials, kits, etc) and do you intend for them to light or just be really good looking static models.

Ohh, now I get it.

Gee, there is so much on my plate; scenery, decoders, custom painting, etc. I was not even considering actually lighting things, although a friend of mine used to advocate for night running. I guess I'll just stick with daylight modeling for now.

Sorry fellas,

Spring finally broke for me. When the weather is nice, young men's thoughts turn to railfanning. I made a pilgrimage to sacred central IIlinois/ Illiana.

Needless to say, not much got done on the layout. I'll try to get summore work done on that crossing next couple days....

Since I have a few hours to kill between job assignments:

For the "post sumpin'" crowd: Here is a bad picture of a picture of the bridge "approach"at Gills Landing. It sure felt wierd to model this bridge without the traditional bridge shoes but when in Rome ...

It seemed odd to plunk the girders nearly directly on the piers. I do not have a good close up shot, but you get the idea.

Nice bridge.

From your photographs, you certainly nailed down it looks.

Ta. I guess I'm just trying to simulate the flavor of the place. The bridge is pretty compressed. I had room & could have represented the entire length of those "approach" girders, but I had some other items to fit onto that shelf just near there.

Here is my attempt, for now. I could not locate the correct overhead doors, so I used a couple stand-ins. Who knows, they might have orginally looked like this anyway and will look better for "retro nights". I probably will not attempt to color the individual bricks, as per prototype, because I have a life. I will go back and add some of the handrails and other details however.

Can you trim the border around the doors back - they overwhelm the wall IMO

Yes, I see your point. Its really not a bad idea, per se. I am worried about trimming them back as they are covering some bad knife work around the door edges. I'm not sure it would work so well.

I think the thing to do, as has been suggested, is to glue them on from the back. I may just go back and redo the entire structure, although redoing the individual boards on that loading dock is not something I relish.

Planting some trees. More to be added.

Yes, I see the leaning tree. Chill. More to be added. It'll get covered. Besides, the real ones are not always perfect.

We've all been there.  MiNi has one guy that built a depot in siding, finished it, painted it, put it on the module, showed his wife, and she immediately looked at it, and said, "the one in the picture is in brick."

I've gone back and done some things multiple times to get it right, or at least to a level that I think is right.  If you're at that point, leave it.  If not, try again.  It's a hobby, enjoy!

I am impressed pretty much every time I check into your site!  Bridge is nice.  Your modeling of it is super!

The other impressive thing is that you have continued to make lots of progress on your layout, even while C-55 is pretty much unavailable.  (...unlike me, who has used that as an excuse to defer work on my layout )

Loud applause for you on both counts!!
Regards,
Paul

Thanks, but you are like the guy that is applauding just a bit too early in the silent theater of 10,000 people.  ;)

The bridge scene has not been worked on in a while, although I need to get back to it. Also, the mainline track has been down for a few years now - back when it was plentiful. (I might even be a factor as to why we are so short now.  ;))

So, don't be too impressed. There have been some 12 hour gaps from on the road work lately where the only energy I can find for the layout is to just stare at it for a few minutes before going to sleep.
